10 Best Campsites in Italy for Family Holidays
From intimate campsites in Lake Garda to luxury resorts near Venice, waterpark favourites in Tuscany and family-friendly bases for Rome, we have the best campsites in Italy for every type of family holiday.
I am regularly asked for recommendations for camping holidays in Italy, so I turned to someone who knows the campsite scene inside out. Family travel journalist April Drew, AKA Getaways with Kids on Instagram, has visited more than 30 campsites across Europe, and she has shared the best campsites in Italy to help you plan your next family holiday.
After sharing some of my favourite campsites in Spain and France, Italy was always going to
be next on the list. Over the years, we’ve travelled extensively throughout Europe as a family, and Italy remains one of those destinations we find ourselves being drawn to, although we haven’t managed to visit as often as I would like.

What I love most about camping in Italy is the balance between adventure and relaxation, and that once you step outside the campsite, there are so many places to explore and iconic sights to see.
Some campsites are huge resort-style destinations packed with waterparks, entertainment and every facility imaginable, while others focus more on their natural surroundings and authentic Italian atmosphere. Whether you’re travelling with toddlers, teenagers or somewhere in between, there are campsites in Italy to suit every family.
Below you’ll find my top 10 Italy campsites that I’ve either stayed at or that sit firmly at the top of my family’s wish list for future adventures.
The Best Campsites in Italy near Lake Garda
1. Bella Italia, Lake Garda

Closest airports: Verona Airport (20 mins) • Milan-Bergamo (60 mins)
Bella Italia was one of the first large-scale Italian campsites we experienced as a family, and it immediately set the bar high, not so much for the campsite itself, but the actual surrounding beauty. Located on the shores of beautiful Lake Garda in Peschiera del Garda, the campsite combines an unbeatable lakeside setting with facilities that keep young children entertained from morning until night.
We went on this trip with Eurocamp and the mobiles didn’t disappoint. Now the mobile homes are spread out throughout the park so we ended up being a little bit away (about a five minute walk) from our friends, it’s that big of a campsite, but the mobile was nice.
The swimming pool complex is impressive, with multiple pools, water features and plenty of space for families to spread out. We went in high season (June) so it was very hard to get a sunbed every morning, there was queues outside the gates every day at 9am and it was a rush for the beds, we’ve all seen these types of videos, garbut when you did get one, it was fabulous.

We loved being able to walk directly into the charming town of Peschiera for evening strolls, gelato stops and lakeside dinners. The location also makes it easy to explore some of Lake Garda’s most popular attractions, including Gardaland , Movieland (my favourite) and nearby Verona – this is what makes Italy camping so great! For families wanting a lively holiday with plenty to do both on and off-site, Bella Italia is hard to beat.

2. Altomincio Family Park, Lake Garda

Closest airports: Verona Airport (25 mins) • Milan-Bergamo (70 mins)
Altomincio Family Park is another campsite that’s frequently recommended by families travelling with younger children – their no car policy around the accommodation areas makes this particularly attractive. Located just south of Lake Garda, it offers a slightly different experience to the large lakeside resorts while still providing easy access to the region’s attractions.
The campsite is particularly well known for its fantastic lagoon pool complex, complete with slides, splash zones, lazy river and plenty of shallow areas for little ones. The atmosphere appears relaxed and family-focused, with lots of activities aimed specifically at younger children.
Its location close to Gardaland, Verona and Lake Garda makes it an excellent base for exploring the wider area while still enjoying a resort-style camping Italy holiday.
3. Piani di Clodia, Lake Garda

Closest airports: Verona Airport (25 mins) • Milan-Bergamo (70 mins)
Piani di Clodia is another one of the 5 star campsites Italy and is situated on the shores of Lake Garda. I have heard wonderful things about it from fellow travelling families and would love to visit. The campsite is particularly famous for its exceptional pool complex, featuring numerous swimming pools, waterslides and children’s play areas.
The lakeside location near Lazise places guests close to many of the region’s most popular attractions. Everything about Piani di Clodia suggests a high-quality family holiday experience, making it a strong contender for our next Lake Garda adventure.
4. Del Garda Village & Camping, Lake Garda

Closest airports: Verona Airport (20 mins) • Milan-Bergamo (60 mins)
Given how much we enjoy the Lake Garda region, Del Garda Village & Camping has long been on my radar. Located close to Peschiera del Garda, it enjoys a fantastic position for exploring the lake’s southern shores, and is ideal for first-time camping holidays in Italy.
The campsite offers direct lake access, family-friendly swimming pools and a more relaxed atmosphere than some of the larger resort-style sites nearby. Reviews frequently mention the beautiful setting and convenient location.
For families wanting all the benefits of a Lake Garda holiday without quite as much hustle and bustle, Del Garda looks like a good choice.
The Best Campsites in Italy near Venice

Piani di ClodiaPra’ delle Torri, Caorle is one of those campsites that feels more like a holiday resort than a traditional campsite. Set on Italy’s Adriatic Coast near Caorle, it’s a destination that seems designed with families firmly in mind.
The enormous waterpark is undoubtedly the star attraction, featuring slides, splash areas and a huge lagoon-style pool. Beyond the swimming facilities, there are sports courts, a golf course, playgrounds, restaurants and direct beach access.
