The Ultimate Guide to Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas – My Review of Dining, Entertainment, Facilities & More
My review of Legend of the Seas has top dining recommendations, the best shows to see, which cabins to choose, cruise tips and lots more.
Stepping on board the world’s largest cruise ship, I was immediately struck by The Pearl, the world’s largest kinetic art sculpture, which is filled with colourful LED lights and dominates the Royal Promenade. As the centrepiece of Legend of the Seas, it delivers a real wow factor from the moment you step on board and sets the tone for what lies ahead. Over the next four days, I experienced spectacular entertainment, beautifully designed spaces and an incredible range of facilities that make this ship unlike anything I have sailed on before.

I was delighted to be invited to cruise on Legend of the Seas’ four-night media and trade sailing from Malaga to Rome, before it picked up its first passengers. An Icon-Class ship, and a sister to Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas, it offers almost the same facilities and dining, but it is a few millimetres longer than its sisters, giving it the title of the world’s largest cruise ship.
The ship can accommodate almost 10,000 people, a figure that is hard to comprehend once you are on board. It carries 5,610 guests at double occupancy, with a maximum capacity of 7,600 passengers, plus 2,350 crew. However, it is so cleverly designed that believe it or not, it doesn’t actually feel that big!

At the heart of the ship is the Royal Promenade, with eight distinct neighbourhoods branching off it. I have always liked the way Royal Caribbean divides its ships into neighbourhoods, as it creates a genuine sense of space while giving each area its own unique atmosphere.
With dedicated zones for families, adults, entertainment and relaxation, guests are well spread out, and the quieter areas on family cruise ships like this, which I personally prefer, tend to feel less crowded.
The layout also makes the ship remarkably easy to navigate. Interactive deck plans and details of nearby restaurants, bars and attractions are displayed beside every lift, so it is virtually impossible to get lost, even on a ship of this scale.

While this is predominantly a family cruise ship, I was really impressed by the entertainment on board, in fact I would go so far as to say it was the best I have seen at sea. With the huge choice of entertainment, facilities and 28 ways to dine, there is so much to cover on a ship of this size, so I have outlined the various neighbourhoods, dining, entertainment and children’s offerings below.
Neighbourhoods on Legend of the Seas
Legend of the Seas has 8 different neighbourhoods, all offering a different vibe and allowing guests to immerse themselves into the atmosphere they want on board.
1. The Royal Promenade is at the heart of the ship and runs right through the centre. It has a wide selection of shops, bars, restaurants and entertainment venues. Royal Caribbean’s parties are often held here where the promenade comes alive with dancers and live music. Top Tip: Make sure to stop by Sorrento’s for a slice of pizza after a night out.
2. Central Park is my favourite neighbourhood on Legend of the Seas. It is home to over 30,000 plants in an open-air garden with bars, shops, restaurants and live music. Top Tip: Pop by the Trellis Bar for their signature Passion Spritz or enjoy pre-dinner drinks from the Champagne Bar.

3. The AquaDome is one of the most striking spaces on Legend of the Seas. Home to the purpose-built AquaTheater, it hosts the spectacular Aqua Show, which is one of the highlights of the entertainment programme – more on this below.

However, it is worth visiting even when a performance is not taking place. The beautiful multi-level Overlook bar offers stylish seating areas and floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic ocean views. I loved this bar, it is one of the most relaxing and impressive places on the ship.
4. The Hideaway would be my top choice for a day by the pool if you are travelling without children, or want a break away from them! This adults-only retreat at the aft of the ship features an infinity-style pool overlooking the ship’s wake, creating one of the most relaxing spots on board.

With comfortable loungers, a lively bar and uninterrupted ocean views, it is the perfect place to unwind while watching the ship sail towards its next destination.
5. The Suite Neighbourhood is exclusively for guests staying in suites. It has elevated sun loungers, a separate bar and restaurant and small swimming pool.
6. Surfside is a dedicated area for families. It is magical for younger children with a carousel, small splash park, separate swimming pool and complimentary dining options. This really impressed me and I’m sure young families will spend a lot of time here away from the busier pool areas.

7. Thrill Island is the place to go if you are looking for action and adventure. Home to the largest waterpark at sea, it features six exciting waterslides, including family raft slides, the first open freefall waterslide at sea and exhilarating mat-racing slides. We had great fun trying them all!

The thrills do not stop there. It is also home to FlowRider® surf simulator, a rock climbing wall, mini golf and Crown’s Edge – the adrenaline-pumping skywalk and zip line experience that left me suspended 154 feet above the ocean – more on this later!
8. Chill Island is the resort style pool deck with a selection of pools, bars and dining options.
Children’s activities on Legend of the Seas

Royal Caribbean is widely regarded as the world’s leading family cruise line, so I expected the children’s facilities on Legend of the Seas to be impressive. However, nothing prepared me for just how good they are. The dedicated Surfside neighbourhood is simply magical. I almost* wished I had younger children with me so I could experience it through their eyes!

Designed especially for young families, Surfside is home to a carousel, splash park, playgrounds and family-friendly dining options, creating a space where parents can easily spend an entire day without needing to venture elsewhere on the ship.

The complimentary kids clubs are here too, with clubs for 3-5 years, 5-7, 8-12 and a separate teen club. There is also a baby club from 6 months – 3 years which is the only one that is payable, but at $9 per hour before 10pm and $12 until 1am, this is superb value for a fully supervised club.
I love how they are all located in the same area, so if you have children in different clubs, you are not going to different parts of the ship to drop and collect them.

Thrill Island’s six slide water park is seriously impressive! There are family tube slides, drop slides and racing slides. You can also enjoy complimentary rides on the FlowRider® surf simulator, rock climbing wall, multi sports court, escape room and mini golf.
Laser Tag: The Rise of Poseidon is another attraction that really impressed me, and I’m sure teenagers will absolutely love it. By day, the Absolute Zero arena is transformed from an ice rink into a glow-in-the-dark laser tag arena, before switching back to its role as the venue for the ice skating show each evening.

In this multiplayer game, teams battle it out through an inflatable obstacle course using laser blasters, making it great fun for families and groups of friends. The minimum age is five years, with a minimum height of 40 inches, and closed-toe shoes must be worn. There is no additional charge to take part, but as places are limited, it is essential to reserve your session in advance through the Royal Caribbean app.
For an additional adrenaline rush, you can pay extra for Crown’s Edge – it is a part skywalk, part zip line and unlike anything I have ever tried before. Suspended 154 feet above the ocean, the floor suddenly drops away beneath you before you glide – or dangle, as it felt in my case, high above the sea.

I will admit there were moments when it was genuinely terrifying, but the experience was over surprisingly quickly, and I am so glad I pushed myself to do it. If you enjoy a challenge, or simply want to conquer a fear, I would highly recommend it – check out my Instagram video here. Prices vary by sailing, so it is worth booking in advance to secure the best rate and availability.
Top Tip: Make sure to bring runners / trainers with you, you need them to do this activity.
Swimming Pools on Legend of the Seas

There are seven swimming pools and ten whirlpools on Legend of the Seas. This may sound a lot, but many of the pools are small, so I think that the pool areas may feel crowded on sea days.
Royal Bay is the main pool and the largest pool at sea, while the Cove is a quieter infinity-edge pool with whirlpools nearby.

There is also a selection of adult-only swimming pools on board. Cloud 17 has a separate bar and whirlpool on Deck 17, along with Swim and Tonic, which is the first swim up bar at sea. At the back of the ship, Hideaway Bay is the pick of the crop for adults, unless you happen to be staying in a suite, then you can use the pool in The Grove, a separate area for suite guests.
In Surfside there is a dedicated family-friendly pool as well as Splashaway Bay, a splash park that caters perfectly for young children.
Dining on Legend of the Seas

There are 28 different ways to dine on Legend of the Seas, with 17 complimentary eateries, which includes 5 different food stands in the Aquadome Market and two restaurants for suite class guests only. You can also choose to pay extra for any of the 11 speciality dining options on board.
Complimentary Dining on Legend of the Seas:
Breakfast is excellent in the Windjammer restaurant. I went there most days, ordered my omelette and was given a buzzer so I browsed the rest of the buffet and went back to collect it when ready. If you just want a snack, the Park Café or Pearl Café will do the trick until lunch time.

Complimentary lunch options are great on board. We dined poolside and enjoyed tasty tacos at El Loco Fresh and loved the selection in the AquaDome food market, especially the Korean chicken and beef bowls from Seoulmate, and the bruschetta from La Espanola.

Top Tip: The selection in the Windjammer buffet restaurant on embarkation day was superb – I was amazed to see huge portions of lobster, king prawns, fillet steaks and lamb chops, so make sure to go there as soon as you board. While the selection was good throughout the cruise, the choice on embarkation day was definitely better.

I found the food in the main dining room good in the evenings. The room is bright and airy and the service was excellent. I would happily go here a few times during a seven night cruise, but not every night. Overall I felt the complimentary dining options were limited in the evening, so I would recommend pre-booking at least 2-3 speciality dining restaurants during your cruise if you are a food lover.
Specialty Dining on Legend of the Seas:
There are 11 speciality dining restaurants on Legend of the Seas. I had the pleasure of dining in Hooked seafood restaurant ($50 extra charge, $15 for children) and the food and service was excellent – it was definitely the best meal we had on board. You can see all others listed below:

If your budget allows, I’m told the theatrical dining experiences on the Royal Railway ($165 for adults, $110 for children ) and the adult-focused Hollywoodland Supper Club ($200) are superb.
Top Tip: Try to book a package before you board which includes 2-3 specialty dining offerings. Watch out for special offers on drinks packages and speciality dining at various times during the year, particularly Black Friday.
Entertainment on Legend of the Seas

I’ve been fortunate to cruise on close to 20 cruise ships and I can honestly say the entertainment on Legend of the Seas was the best I’ve seen at sea. I’m not surprised they won Best Entertainment at Sea nine years in a row by Travel Weekly’s Readers Choice Awards.
Not only were the shows world-class, but the eight different live music venues and the themed parties on the Royal Promenade were excellent. While this is predominantly a family cruise ship, if you were travelling without children, you would not be short of things to do in the evening.
This is some of the best entertainment on Legend of the Seas that shouldn’t be missed:
Shockwave Aquashow

I loved the AquaTheater show on Harmony of the Seas and genuinely did not think it could be surpassed, but this production takes it to another level. Combining breathtaking acrobatics, high-energy choreography and an upbeat modern soundtrack, every moment in Shockwave is designed to impress.
The spectacular 55-foot waterfall cascading from the ceiling provides a dramatic backdrop as divers launch themselves from platforms 60 feet above the stage.
The only show I can compare it to is Cirque du Soleil’s ‘O’ at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, but I actually thought this was better! Best of all, it is included in your cruise fare. However, you do need to reserve your seats in advance, so make sure you book it as soon as reservations open. It is, without doubt, one of the best shows on Legend of the Seas.
Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

The Broadway hit musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory makes its Royal Caribbean debut on Legend of the Seas, and it is a super addition to the entertainment line-up. The impressive set design, talented cast and engaging storytelling create an experience that feels like watching a West End or Broadway production.
Filled with memorable songs, colourful costumes and plenty of magical moments, it is a family-friendly show that is sure to be one of the highlights of your cruise. It is included in your cruise fare, but be sure to reserve your seats on the Royal Caribbean app as soon as bookings open.
Fusion Ice Skating Show

Legend of the Seas ice skating show Fusion, takes place in Absolute Zero℠, Royal Caribbean’s largest ice arena. Super talented skaters perform mesmerising moves and stunts in an immersive show that is suitable for all the family. This is another complimentary experience but must be pre-booked on the app to ensure access.
America’s Got Talent LIVE
America’s Got Talent makes its debut on Legend of the Seas. Be prepared for musicians, magicians, acrobats and lots more. Each show brings five favourites from the Got Talent universe to the Royal Theatre stage.
The Dueling Pianos

Every evening we found ourselves back at Dueling Pianos on the Royal Promenade. This incredibly talented duo have no set list, instead taking requests from the audience and performing everything from classic anthems to modern hits.
Their quick wit, audience interaction and outstanding performances create a fantastic atmosphere, turning the venue into one big singalong. It is one of those shows where everyone gets involved, and before long the whole bar is singing together. I absolutely loved it.
There are seven more live music venues to choose from – one for every night of your cruise, with 18 bars in total on board. Choose latin music in Boleros, Jazz at Lou’s, piano singalong at Schooners, acoustic guitar players at the English Pub, live bands and disco at the Music Hall, or soft instrumental music at Central Park or The Overlook.
Keep an eye on the Royal Caribbean App or the Daily Planner, which is delivered to your cabin each evening, for details of themed parties in the Royal Promenade, as well as daily game shows and trivia.
You can also try your luck in the casino or, if you prefer to keep active, make use of the jogging track and fitness centre. There is also a spa on board for anyone in need of some relaxation.
Cabins on Legend of the Seas

Accommodation on Legend of the Seas caters for every type of traveller, from couples to large families and multi-generational groups. Cabins are modern, bright and thoughtfully designed, with plenty of storage space, comfortable beds and clever layouts.

The family rooms with a separate area for kids’ bunk beds are cleverly designed and there is also a wide choice of interconnecting rooms and spacious suites. While suites are expensive, having access to a private restaurant, bar and pool area is a huge benefit, so should be considered when pricing.
If you really want to splash the cash, the Ultimate Family Townhouse is the place to stay! This three-story townhouse comes with its own slide, cinema room, games area and 750 sq ft of private outdoor space, it is unlike anything else at sea, and sleeps up to 8! However, with prices starting at around £60,000 for a week, it won’t appeal to everyone!

I stayed in an Ocean View Balcony cabin and was impressed by the clever layout, contemporary design and the generous balcony and bathroom. The cabin felt bright, spacious and had plenty of storage, making it a comfortable base for the cruise.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the Interior Balcony cabins overlooking Central Park and Surfside. As they are typically less expensive than ocean-view balcony cabins, they offer excellent value while still giving you a balcony overlooking one of the ship’s vibrant neighbourhoods.
I expected them to be noisy, but the soundproofing is excellent and, with the balcony doors closed, they were remarkably quiet.
Final thoughts on Legend of the Seas

There is no doubt in my mind that Legend of the Seas is one of the world’s best family cruise ships. The facilities on board are exceptional, particularly Surfside, the dedicated neighbourhood for young families. The entertainment is equally impressive and the best I have experienced on any cruise ship.
It is not perfect. I suspect the main pool decks will feel crowded on sea days, and sun beds are packed very closely together – although this is a problem I have seen with many cruise ships. And, while the complimentary dining options are excellent for lunch, the choice available in the evenings is more limited than what I would have expected on a ship of this size.
That said, these are relatively minor criticisms when weighed against everything else the ship has to offer. If you are looking for a family cruise where children, teenagers and adults will all be entertained from morning until night, I think you would be hard pushed to find a better option than Legend of the Seas.
Where does Legend of the Seas cruise to?

Legend of the Seas will operate seven-night cruises from Rome throughout the 2026 summer season before moving to Fort Lauderdale in November to cruise the Caribbean and stop at Royal Caribbean’s private island Perfect Day at CocoCay. In 2027 it will return to Europe to cruise the Med for the summer season.
I recommend booking cruise holidays from Ireland or UK from a specialist cruise agent such as Sunway or Travel Suite. If booking from the USA visit CruiseDirect for the best prices.
