October Bank Holiday Weekend Staying in PortAventura Hotel Inc Flights, 2ad & 2ch €1610

PortAventura, Spain

Spend the October bank holiday weekend in PortAventura. Stay onsite in the 4-star Gold River Hotel and enjoy unlimited access to the park, plus a day in Ferrari Land!

Book a weekend in PortAventura and you are guaranteed to have lots of family fun. One of Europe’s largest theme parks, PortAventura has rides and attractions for all ages, and there will be plenty of spooky events planned to coincide with the Halloween break.

Ideally located in Salou, you can also enjoy some beach time, or take a trip to Barcelona if you choose to extend your stay. We enjoyed a wonderful few days in Port Aventura a few years ago, and stayed in this very same hotel.

the best theme parks in Europe

The 4-star Gold River Hotel is a Wild West-themed hotel and boasts three pools as well as day and evening entertainment. There is a choice of dining options including a buffet and a la carte restaurants. We enjoyed some tasty food here and the supplement to upgrade to half board is only €185 for a family of four.

By staying on site in one of PortAventura’s hotels, you will have unlimited access to PortAventura throughout your stay as well as 1 day access to Ferrari Land. You will also enjoy the flexibility of being able to visit the parks in the evening time when there are less crowds.

Ryanair have extended their services to Barcelona Reus airport to coincide with the Halloween break this year, and prices for return flights for three nights from the 28th of October are €196 per person from Dublin and €254 from Cork.

Flights are also available from Cork for four nights on the 27th of October for only €147 per person.

Reus airport is only 12 minutes drive to PortAventura so I have chosen Reus for this weekend break. However, there are more flights available to Barcelona airport ( 1 hour drive from PortAvenura ), and they are lower in price.

PortAventura can also be reached from Girona airport ( 2 hours drive) – with flights from Knock to Girona for five nights on the 26th of October for only €82 per person.

Amazing Disney World Orlando Offers For 2024 – Get Up to $2100 Dining & Merch Credit!

Disney Orlando Blur

Get up to $2100 Disney Dining and Merchandise credit, up to $400 Disney Gift Card plus 14 days for the price of 7, with these amazing Disney World Orlando offers for 2024!

The Disney World Orlando offers that you have been waiting for are here! For a limited time you can enjoy up to a whopping $2100 Dining and Merchandise credit if you stay in a Disney Hotel, up to $400 Disney Gift Card, as well as 14 days for the price of 7 with Disney park tickets.

Since my visit to Florida last year, I regularly receive messages from people looking for Disney World Orlando offers, so I was delighted when Ireland’s leading attraction tickets provider, AttractionTickets.com asked me to share these amazing 2024 deals with you.

Disney World Orlando offers for 2024

Not only will you be able to visit one of the world’s best holiday destinations, but these Disney World Orlando offers will enable you to stay onsite, in a Disney Resort Hotel! If you were following me during our family holiday to Orlando last year you may remember I mentioned regularly that I regretted not staying in a Disney Hotel. As well as clearly being the most convenient option, you can also enjoy so many great benefits – I’ve listed just three below:

3 Reasons why you should stay at a Disney Resort Hotel:

1. Convenience:

It is impossible to fathom how big Disney World Orlando is until you are actually there – it is the same size of Manchester! There are four main parks that you must visit, plus water parks, and the shopping and dining area – Disney Springs.

Getting from one park to another can take up to 20 minutes by shuttle bus and if you are staying in a hotel outside the parks, like we were, you have either bus journeys or parking to contend with – standard parking fees are $25 per day at Disney World Orlando!

Disney World Orlando offers for 2024

By staying in a Disney Resort Hotel you can enjoy free and easy access to the parks and Disney Springs. Disney has bus, boat, monorail and even skyliner (cable car) services that can take you from your hotel to the parks. I don’t believe you need a car if staying in a Disney Resort, however, if you choose to hire one, you can enjoy complimentary standard parking at Disney theme parks and the Disney Springs area.

2. Early access to Disney Parks and Individual Lightning Lanes:

If you stay in a Disney Resort Hotel you can avail of 30-minute early entry to any Disney Park every day of your holiday, and guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resort Hotels or Disney Deluxe Villas can enjoy extended evening hours too.

Star Wars Rise of the Resistance is one of the best things to do in Disney World Orlando
Star Wars Rise of the Resistance

I tried every morning to pre-book one of Disney’s individual Lightning Lanes to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – but to no avail. If I had stayed in a Disney Resort Hotel I would have been able to access the individual Lightning Lane reservations system at 7am, an hour before other guests.

If you choose to stay at other hotels you can only make your first individual Lightning Lane reservation when the park opens. Trust me, it is worth staying in a Disney Resort Hotel for this alone, it can save you hours of queueing time!

3. It’s Magical!

disney orlando offer

The only thing that’s better than telling your kids you are going to Disney World Orlando – is staying there! By staying in the Disney Resort Hotel you will be immersed in the magic of Disney 24/7. Many hotels have themed rooms, Disney’s Movies Under The Stars at hotel swimming pools, and you may even spot some of your favourite Disney characters from time to time.

How to book Disney World Orlando Offers:

Simply visit Attraction Tickets.com, select the dates you want to travel, then choose from 25 different Disney Resort hotels and park tickets! For a limited time (must book by 10th November) you can get up to $2100 Dining and Merchandise credit per room, plus a Disney Gift Card valued up to $400 thanks to AttractionTickets.com. And, you only need a €100 deposit to book!

Disney World Orlando offers for 2024

The amount of credit and gift card value varies depending on the hotel you choose, and the length of your stay. To make things easy for you, I have priced a value, moderate, and deluxe hotel below, based on a seven-night family stay in August.

Prices are lower if you can travel off peak, and dining credit and spending money will be higher if you stay longer. There are many more hotels to choose from, and if you wish to stay longer or shorter, or have more or less in your party, you can search prices quickly and easily here:

There are over 25 different Disney Resort hotels to choose from. Disney’s Animal Kingdom lodge is the perfect choice for animal lovers, or if you want to be surrounded by landscapes from some of Disney’s most iconic movies, then choose Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. There are plenty of value options too, that will still have plenty of Disney magic!

Disney World Orlando offers for 2024 staying in Disney Hotels

Disney World Orlando offers are valid from 9th of January until 18th December 2024 with exclusions from 23rd March to 12th of April and 12th of April to 25th of October. Note selected Disney Resort Hotels and room types are excluded from this offer.

A minimum stay of five consecutive nights is required to qualify for Disney Dining and Merchandising Credit and the Disney Gift Cards are allocated as follows:

  • Guests booking a Disney Value Resort Hotel will receive a $200 Disney Gift Card Per Room.
  • Guests booking a Disney Moderate Resort Hotel or Disney’s Art of Animation will receive a $250 Disney Gift Card per room.
  • Guests booking a Disney Deluxe Resort or Deluxe Villa guests will receive a $400 Disney Gift Card per room.

Riverside Park Hotel Couples Rooms

This special offer at the Riverside Park Hotel in Wexford is superb value for an Autumn break in Ireland. Price includes Full Irish breakfast, as well as Prosecco and chocolates in the room on arrival!

I firmly believe that Autumn breaks in Ireland are under-rated. Hotel prices are much lower than the summer months, and this special offer at the Riverside Park Hotel is a testament to that.

Can you believe you can get an overnight stay in a 4-Star hotel with breakfast, as well as chocolates and Prosecco in your room on arrival, from just €59 per person?

Special offer at Riverside Park Hotel, Wexford.

I had the pleasure of staying in the Riverside Park Hotel last summer, and was delighted when they got in touch and asked me to showcase their autumn breaks. The Riverside Park Hotel is located on the banks of the River Slaney in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford.

While my visit was a family stay, I think its choice of dining options, lively bar, and leisure centre on site, make it a great value choice for couples when kids are back in school.

Riverside Park Hotel, Wexford, terrace

The hotel is ideally located if you want to get out and about and explore Wexford. With 275km of coastline, beaches are without a doubt some of Wexford’s top attractions – and the stunning Curraloe beach just 19km away.

The world’s oldest working lighthouse in the world – Hook Lighthouse, is definitely worth a visit, and you should check out the new coastal walk from Arthurstown to Duncannon on the same peninsula. If adventure is what you seek, sea-cave kayaking with the Irish Experience is a good choice.

Santorini Holidays for October Bank Holiday Weekend, 5 Nights from €329!

oia-Santorini

Scratch one off your bucket list with these Santorini holidays from Dublin – prices from €329 for five nights!

Santorini is one of the world’s top holiday destinations, and I had the pleasure of visiting recently. Those picture perfect white villages do exist and are even more stunning when you see them first hand!  However, July or August is not the best time to see them! These amazing Santorini holidays in October should allow you to explore this beautiful island without the crowds that are there during the peak summer months.

Aer Lingus and Ryanair are both flying direct from Dublin to Santorini this year and there are great value airfares available, especially if you can travel off peak. I found return flights from €200 over the October bank holiday weekend.

I chose five-night Santorini holidays over the October bank holiday weekend, which should give you ample time to explore this small island. However, if you prefer to travel on other dates or stay for seven or ten nights, simply edit the dates via the links below to suit your requirements.

The island is quite small, so if you choose to stay on the beach side, you will never be longer than 30 minutes bus ride from the stunning villages of Oia, Imerovigli and Fira. Most of the beach resorts have plenty of life, and the restaurants and bars offer better value for money.

I often see luxury hotels being advertised, but it is also possible to book Santorini holidays on a budget – there are plenty of three and four-star hotel options to choose from that receive great reviews from previous guests. It is also easy to travel around the island, either by booking excursions or hiring a car.

I found a great deal in the highly rated Acqua Vatos Santorini Hotel in the lively resort of Kamari, close to its famous Black Beach. It boasts a large pool with snack bar, a chill-out lounge bar for evening drinks, and contemporary decor throughout.

Rated as Excellent on TripAdvisor, this is great value for Santorini holidays – price per room is €129 per person for a five-night stay including breakfast! Want to bring the kids along? A two-bedroom family suite is just €586 for five nights.

If you prefer to stay in Oia or Fira, there is value there too. The popular Oias Sunset are €317pp for a five-night stay. For a five-star experience, check out the De Sol Hotel & Spa in Fira. This is priced at just €464 per person for a five-night stay including breakfast.

Imerovigli would be my resort of choice if I was to return. It has the picture perfect white-washed village complete with stunning hill top views, but doesn’t have the crowds to go with it. Imerovigli is a much quieter resort than Oia, Fira or Kamari but Fira is just 10 minutes away by taxi.

The stunning 5-star Cresanto Luxury Suites are €492 per person for a five-night stay in a Junior Suite with plunge pool and breakfast.

For the ultimate friends getaway, why not book a villa with a heated private pool and hot tub? The Katharos Pool Villas offer stunning views of the Aegean Sea and those all important sunsets, and are located in the fashionable resort of Oia.

Price for a five-night stay, based on four sharing is €516 per person.

14 Christmas Market Breaks, Flights & 4-Star Hotels from €168pp

christmas markets in Germany

Choose one of my handpicked Christmas market breaks, with flights and hotels included, from €168 per person.

Some cities are best seen in winter, and Christmas market breaks provide the best excuse to visit. Market stalls have the perfect stocking fillers, aromas of roasted chestnuts and mulled wine waft through the crisp cold air, and if you are lucky you might even catch a Christmas concert.

christmas market breaks

I have searched the web to bring you some of Europe’s favourite cities for Christmas market breaks. All prices include flights and  4 and 5-star hotels, that are highly rated on TripAdvisor and are centrally located.

I have priced most of these Christmas market breaks for two-night stays, departing early morning and returning in the evening, to maximise your time away. Prague and Cologne are exceptions, and are priced for three nights to coincide with flights.

I have chosen random dates so if you prefer to travel at a different time, or for a longer or shorter duration, just click on the links below and edit the search to suit your requirements.

Budapest is a super choice for a Christmas market break as there are several Christmas markets in the city centre. Vörösmarty Square is the most popular where Gerbeaud House is transformed into an enormous Advent Calendar, and a new window opens daily at 5pm.

St Stephen’s Basilica is lit up at night time and resembles a Disney-like castle, and make sure to take time to visit the Banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter and Andrássy Avenue, which are all UNESCO world heritage sites.

There are flights available to Budapest from Dublin and Shannon airport this winter. Price for flights and a two-night stay at the highly rated Boutique Hotel Budapest is €197 per person on the 11th of December from Dublin.

I have chosen an early flight out and a late flight home, this will give you three days in Budapest to explore this great city. Ryanair also fly from Shannon to Budapest, the best value flights are for four nights from Monday to Friday.

Rome may not offer Christmas markets on the same scale as some of its European counterparts, but it a stunning city to visit at any time of year, and Christmas time is no exception!

The Piazza Navona houses the annual Christmas market with traditional stalls and souvenirs. Santa usually makes regular appearances and there is a carousel to complete the festival atmosphere. However, it is the magical crib displays and nativity scenes in numerous churches, that make Rome very special at Christmas time.

Family Trip to New York, February Bank Holiday Weekend, 2ad & 2ch, €1997

Top of the Rock New York (1)

Treat the kids to a family trip to New York. Stay at a highly rated hotel or apartment over the February bank holiday weekend, and take a bite out of the Big Apple!

A family trip to New York is not something you often see advertised, but if adults still feel wonder after countless visits, ask yourself what must a child think? Whether it’s feeling like Kevin Mc Allister in Home Alone 2, or Giselle in Enchanted – New York is a place that transports kids into a fantasy land.

They will recognise the skyscrapers that Spiderman swung from and the streets where Annie sang Tomorrow, even the yellow cabs will bring back movie flashbacks.

family trip to New York

We brought the kids to New York for the first time a few years ago and they loved it. Most of the reasons that I fell in love with New York the first time I visited, were the same for my kids.

They loved the gruff New Yorker taxi drivers yelling at tourists in Times Square, going uptown or downtown on the subway, and the overall feeling that they were inside a movie, in a galaxy far far away from everyday life.
