Sarah Slattery, The Travel Expert, reviews Hogmanay

Edinburgh, Hogmanay, 30th Dec, 2 Nights, flight & hotel €285!

Looking to get away for New Years Eve? Do it in style and celebrate Hogmanay in Edinburgh!

Hogmanay is a huge deal in Scotland, in fact for most Scots it is bigger than Christmas Day. It starts with a massive parade on the 30th of December, with fireworks and music from top bands. This continues for three days and is probably considered one of the best places in the world to celebrate New Years Eve.

Regardless of Hogmanay, Edinburgh is a great choice for city break. An hours flight and a short taxi ride and you are relaxing in your hotel in no time. Edinburgh oozes character, it is full of cobbled stone streets with quirky shops and boutiques and has numerous sights to see. A visit to Edinburgh castle is a must, and the surrounding streets with traditional shops are well worth exploring. It is also a great city for shopping with most of the high street shops located on Princes Street, it is very easy to find what you are looking for.

Sarah Slattery, The Travel Expert, Edinburgh

Edinburgh is of course renowned for it’s nightlife, it is a party town and there always seems to be something going on so there is no need to fret if you don’t have tickets to all the events. You can find pubs open 24 hours a day in Edinburgh and a visit to Rose Street has to be done! It used to hold the record for the most amount of public houses on one street, they may have lost the record but lets just say you couldn’t possibly visit them all!

I found a great deal in The Tune Haymarket Hotel, it receives good reviews on tripadvisor and is well located. You have a choice of hopping on a tram or bus across the road from the hotel, or walking to the city centre (20 minutes away). Fly from Dublin on the 30th of December and spend two nights here for only €285 including flights. The flight departs at 0630 on Wednesday morning and returns at 2000 on Friday night so although you have three days in Edinburgh you are only away for two nights. The 2nd of January is also a bank holiday in Scotland and Hogmanay will be alive and kicking so why not extend your stay to three nights.
