A weekend break in Venice is the ultimate escape for any couple looking for a romantic retreat. This gem of a city has such a unique charm, in it’s own right, but still possesses all the Italian qualities that will make you want to keep going back for more.
I know it’s a bit of a clichè, but a Gondola ride along one of the many canals of Venice simply has to be done on a weekend break in Venice. There is something very relaxing about floating on water and taking in the sights around you. It will be hard not to fall in love with Venice after one of these. You may want to have the obligatory coffee on Piazza San Marco (St. Marks Square) but what ever you do don’t miss the Campanile tower on the same square, which offers you brilliant sea views of the Adriatic.
Rialto Bridge is also a must-see and you won’t be hard pressed to find delicious local cuisine in one of the many restaurants in the same area. The Italians invented pizza so it is safe to say there is no where better to try it, but make sure you seek out Antica Forno Venezia, it is my favourite place for pizza in Venice.
I found a great deal in the highly rated Mercurio Venezia Hotel. It is just minutes from St Marks Square and is the perfect setting for a weekend break in Venice. Breakfast is also included in the price! The dates I chose are from Thursday the 5th of September until Sunday 8th of September, but if these dates don’t suit simply edit the search via the link below, to suit your requirements.
The price of €366pp covers the cost of the hotel and flights. The Flights are direct to Venice Treviso with Ryanair and cost €151pp and the hotel costs just €215 per person. You can check out information on connections to Venice city centre here.
