Plan ahead and enjoy a New Year to remember! Check out this super deal to New York for New Year and get planning a festive break away.
New York is one of the few places that I have re-visited many times, but the wow factor never goes away. I always feel like I am part of a movie set, and even the most simple thing like hailing a yellow cab, gives me joy. New York is definitely one of my favourite cities in the world, and being in New York for New Year is about as good as it gets!
Few cities capture the magic of Christmas better than New York. The city is covered in lights, Department Stores bring a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘window shopping’, and is there a more famous Christmas tree than the one at Rockefeller Centre? Last year’s 85 years old Christmas tree was 79ft tall and covered in 50,000 lights!
And let’s not forget ice skating in Central Park – another iconic winter scene.
The annual ‘Ball Drop’ in Times Square is a free event, although expect to queue for a few hours to catch this famous celebration. However, entertainment starts at 6pm so there will be live music and celebrity chats while you wait.
If the Ball Drop isn’t your thing, don’t worry, there will be plenty of events on in New York for New Year. We spent New Year’s Eve in New York many years ago and never went to Times Square – we enjoyed an amazing night in a Soho restaurant bar instead! Ask your hotel for nearby events and be sure to book in advance.
Of course a trip to New York for New Year is not just about New Year’s Eve. You will have four days to explore New York’s highlights. The Empire State Building, Top of the Rock and One World Observatory have been the favourites for taking in the skyline, but thrillseekers might like to try New York’s newest attraction – Summit One Vanderbilt.

One of New York’s tallest buildings, visitors can stand over the glass sky boxes that jut out of the massive skyscraper – although its probably not for the faint hearted! You can see lots more of New York’s top attractions here:

I found flights with United Airlines, flying direct from Dublin to Newark. Contrary to what you may think the transfer time from Newark to Manhattan is similar to JFK.
Return airfares start at just €542 per person on the 28th of December. This price is based on the Basic Economy fare, but I recommend opting for the Economy fare of €652 which includes checked baggage, seat selection and free changes if required – don’t worry I have based this €899 offer on this fare.
The highly rated Lucerne Hotel on Manhattan’s Upper West Side is great value, priced at just €538 per person based on two sharing. Check out the reviews on TripAdvisor here.
Want to bring the kids along? A four-night stay is just €1284 for a family of four.
