20 Family Staycations Over Halloween Break, 2 Night Stays from €288!

Thinking about some family staycations over the October mid term break? I’ve got family friendly Irish hotels and self catering apartments and houses to suit all tastes and budgets.

If you are planning some family staycations over the October mid term break, now is the time to book! I know many of you are looking for cheap hotel deals, others might want a bit of luxury, and many are looking for self catering accommodation with hotel facilities. I have tried to cater for everyone and have plenty of variety below.


All family staycations are based on a two-night family stay, but if you want to stay for longer, or just want an overnight escape, simply click on the links below and edit the search dates accordingly. I selected various dates throughout the mid term below but dates can be changed to suit your requirements.  



1. Charleville Park Hotel, Cork, Family Room: €319

If you are looking for great value family staycations over the Halloween break, this will be hard to beat! The Charleville Park Hotel is located 40 minutes from Cork and 30 minutes from Limerick, so you have the option to explore both counties as well as the wonderful Wild Atlantic Way.


There is a leisure club with 25-metre pool on site, as well as a restaurant and bar serving drinks and snacks. Rated as Excellent on TripAdvisor, this is the ideal hotel for families looking to explore Cork’s top attractions.

2. Ballyseede Castle, Tralee, Kerry: The Lodge Family Room B&B, €410

All kids want to stay in a castle, right? Kerry’s only authentic castle hotel is surrounded by 30 acres of private gardens and woodland and is steeped in history. Ballyseede Castle is also known for its traditional Irish cuisine and fine dining, as well as its much loved resident, an Irish Wolfhound.  


The Lodge family room has two double beds and offers great value for a family castle stay in Ireland. You are also ideally placed to explore the Ring of Kerry and the Wild Atlantic Way.

The traditional Quilty Holiday Cottages are located on Clare’s coast and offer panoramic views on the Atlantic Ocean. Imagine walking the Cliffs of Moher, and returning to an open fire in your cottage! 4. Bunratty Holiday Homes, Clare:  3-bedroom house €424

Family staycations in Bunratty Holiday Homes.

Set in the village of Bunratty, these spacious three-bedroomed homes have bright modern interiors, and a patio area. The village has a host of craft shops and restaurants, with Bunratty Castle and Folk Park just 200 metres away. The coast is just 15 minutes away, and the beaches at Lahinch or Kilkee are an hour’s drive away.

5. Clayton Hotel & Leisure Club, Sligo: 2-bedroom Family Room €438

Set on expansive grounds, yet within walking distance of Sligo Town centre, the 4-star Clayton Sligo ticks all boxes for a family holiday in Ireland. We enjoyed a family staycation here recently and loved it.


The leisure centre has a separate kids pool, and there is a mini golf course, games room and sensory room on-site.

6. Slieve Russell Hotel, Cavan: 2 Nights B&B + 1 Dinner, €575

The Slieve Russell Hotel is set in 300 acres, surrounded by lakes and a Championship golf-course, as well boasting a a 20-metre swimming pool, luxurious spa and a choice of family-friendly dining options.

The Russell Rangers Kids Club will operate from 28th October to 4th November and there is also a games room, tennis courts and adventure golf. Family rooms can cater for families of five and have tea/coffee making facilities and a fridge.


Price for the Slieve Russell’s two-night family escape is €575 from Sunday to Thursday and includes a stay in a Deluxe Family Room – suitable for 2 adults and 3 children, breakfast each day, an evening meal on the evening of your choice and a complimentary round of Adventure Golf. The dinner is priced for adults only, but children aged 4 – 12 can dine for free each evening in the kids club at 5pm.

7. Kenmare Bay Lodges, Kerry: 2 Bedroom Lodge, €598

The Kenmare Bay holiday homes are always highly sought after, not only because of their ideal location, but they offer free access to the Leisure Centre and hotel facilities. They have availability in three-bedroom lodges, which are perfect for large families or group getaways.

8. Ocean Sands Hotel, Enniscrone, Family Room €288

The Ocean Sands Hotel is located in the heart of Enniscrone, overlooking one of Ireland’s best beaches, the location couldn’t be better. Children will love Waterpoint Aqua Park too, which is only a few minutes walk away. Price for a two-night stay on the 1st  of November is only €270 per family.

9. Staycity Apartments Dublin City: 1 bedroom apartment €595

If you have been following me for a while you will know I fell in love with Mayo’s stunning coastline a few years ago, and this two-bedroom apartment is ideally located to explore it.


Located right in the heart of Westport, The Helm overlooks the harbour and has a restaurant and bar, with complimentary breakfast included in your stay. This is great value for self-catering breaks in Ireland in one of the Wild Atlantic Way’s most vibrant towns.

12. Further Space in Mourne Mountains, Co Down: Glamping Pod, €372

Slieve Gullion Forest Park has an annual five day Halloween experience filled with costumed characters, illuminations and mythical storytelling, and I found good value staying in Further Space Glamping Pods which are just a 30 minute drive away.  

These top rated pods have all mod cons including a queen size bed, bunk beds for kids and an ensuite bathroom. Price for a two-night stay is €372.

13. 5-Star Dunloe Hotel & Gardens, Kerry: Family of 5 from €400

The Dunloe Hotel prides itself on its family friendly facilities, something that can often be lacking in five-star hotels. As well as 64 acres to explore, guests can enjoy complimentary horse riding on Haflinger ponies, two indoor tennis courts and fishing on the River Laune which flows through the estate. There is a Leisure Centre on site too, as well as an adventure playground.

This luxury hotel has large family rooms that can accommodate two adults and three children, which consists of a double room with balcony and a separate room for children via an internal interconnecting door that can not be reached from the hotel corridor.


This Halloween the Dunloe Hotel embrace’s ‘Dia de Los Muertos’ – Mexico’s Halloween, from Friday, 27th October – Sunday, 5th November. The 10-day festival will have lots of activities for children including Halloween games, Spooky Fairy Trail, pumpkin carving, trick or treating and a Halloween Disco.

As the name suggests they are situated just two minutes walk from the Blue Flag Garryvoe Beach, however you can also avail of the leisure centre and swimming pool at the nearby Garryvoe Hotel, for a nominal daily charge.

15. The Lodge at Ashford, Mayo: 2 Nights B&B + 1 Dinner + Activities, €995

The Lodge at Ashford has a special spooky adventure this Halloween which includes pumpkin picking, a treasure hunt, Kids Club and movie night. Families will be staying in one of the Quay Suites for two nights with breakfast each day and dinner in Wilde’s restaurant on the first night.


On the second evening, parents are free to enjoy a kid-free meal while children enjoy a movie in the ‘kids club’ and feast on pizza and cupcakes that they helped make earlier in the day. This two-night luxury Halloween break is available from €995 for a family of four.

16. The K Club, Kildare: Halloween Package 2 Nights B&B + 1 Dinner + Activities €640

The 5-star K Club Hotel has launched a family Halloween package to coincide with the Púca festival. The estate will be transformed into Púca’s playground, with plenty of family friendly activities for everyone to enjoy including bobbing for apples, and ghost story telling.


Two or three night family breaks include full Irish breakfast each morning, dinner for the whole family on the evening of your choice, and full access to the Púca Halloween Fest Programme of activities. Prices start from €270 per night per room for three night stays, or €310 per room for two night stays, based on 2 adults and 1 child sharing.

Located close to Donegal town, with some of Ireland’s best beaches and the Wild Atlantic Way on your doorstep, this is a great choice for a family holiday in Ireland. There is a swimming pool, children’s pool, sauna, and state-of-the-art gym onsite, as well as a choice of dining options.

18. Killashee Hotel, Kildare: 2 Night B&B + 1 Dinner + Activities, €590

The newly refurbished 4-star Kilashee Hotel is situated on a 55 acre estate with fairy forest trail, Butterfly Garden, and a playground with a zipline. The leisure centre boasts a 25 metre swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, as well as a children’s pool.


This year they have a ‘Frights & Delights’ Halloween package where children are invited to dress up and get their face painted, followed by a spooky movie with treats. 

The two-night package is available from €590, and is based on staying in a spacious Deluxe family room ( can sleep up to 5), with a full Irish breakfast each morning and a three course dinner on an evening of choice. Each child will receive a Spooky goodie bag on arrival and a homemade Halloween cookie to get them into the spooky spirit.

20. Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel: Family Room, €454

The Kilkenny Ormonde is practically a landmark in Kilkenny City, and is located just minutes away from the Medieval Mile. Its brasserie and lively bar attract locals as well as visitors, and it is the only city hotel in Kilkenny that has a leisure centre and spa.

A kids club usually operates during school holidays, making it a firm favourite for family staycations over the October mid term break.
