Thinking about some family staycations over the October mid term break? I’ve got family friendly Irish hotels and self catering apartments and houses to suit all tastes and budgets.
If you are planning some family staycations over the October mid term break, I’ve got you covered! I know many of you are looking for cheap hotel deals, others might want a bit of luxury, and many are looking for self catering accommodation with hotel facilities. I have tried to cater for everyone and have plenty of variety below.
Most family staycations are based on a two-night family stay, however I have also included some overnight Halloween package deals with meals and activities included. If you want to stay for longer, or just want an overnight escape, simply click on the links below and edit the search dates accordingly.
I selected various dates throughout the mid term below but dates can be changed to suit your requirements.
1. Kerry: Ballyseede Castle, Tralee, The Lodge Family Room B&B, 2 Nights €445
All kids want to stay in a castle, right? Kerry’s only authentic castle hotel is surrounded by 30 acres of private gardens and woodland and is steeped in history. Ballyseede Castle is also known for its traditional Irish cuisine and fine dining, as well as its much loved resident, an Irish Wolfhound.
The Lodge family room has two double beds and offers great value for a family castle stay in Ireland. You are ideally placed to explore the Ring of Kerry and the Wild Atlantic Way, and Don’t miss the many Halloween experiences taking place around the county for Samhain Chiarraí.

The Midlands Park Hotel is located in the centre of Portlaoise and has the added benefit of a leisure club with a 22 metre pool and a kids club onsite. We stayed here last year and loved its family friendly facilities and super service. There is a choice of dining options available, including Kelly’s Steakhouse which I can highly recommend.
Top Tip: Don’t miss nearby Birr Castle’s Witch’s Magic Trail which takes places from 24th – 31st October.
View offer here3. Kildare: 5* K Club, Halloween Spectacular with Meals, Activities, 2ad & 2ch, 2 Nights, €1098
The K Club are renowned for their superb Halloween experience. This year from 24th of October until 1st November they will host a vintage circus with magicians, ringmasters and occasional spooky scares!
Guests can learn the art of juggling, plate spinning and take part in a hula hoop challenge, in the daily Circus Skills School, and enjoy the Circus Obstacle Course, Family Circus Quiz, a Big Top Afternoon Tea* and daily pumpkin bowling. Spooky movies will be played in the evening and a Trick or Treat Adventure will take place for those staying on the 31st October or 1st November.
While the kids are enjoying the Halloween activities or the Fun Festival Kids Club*, adults can retreat to the Spa or enjoy wine tasting in the cellar – I tried this experience during my visit last year and would highly recommend it.
Price for a two-night stay with breakfast, a family dinner in The Palmer or South Bar & Restaurant on one evening, full access to the Halloween Spectacular Activity Programme, and The K Spa Health & Fitness facilities, is €1098, for two adults and two children in interconnecting rooms.

Set on expansive grounds, yet within walking distance of Sligo Town centre, the 4-star Clayton Sligo ticks all boxes for a family holiday in Ireland. We enjoyed a family staycation here recently and loved it. The leisure centre has a separate kids pool, and there is a mini golf course, games room and sensory room on-site.

The Ocean Sands Hotel is located in the heart of Enniscrone, overlooking one of Ireland’s best beaches, the location couldn’t be better. Children will love Waterpoint Aqua Park too, which is only a few minutes walk away.

Johnstown Estate is the ideal choice if you want a luxury family break that is close to Dublin. Set within 120 acres of stunning parkland, you will find extensive leisure and spa facilities, as well as a choice of dining options. We enjoyed a fabulous break here last winter and loved its fabulous spa, family friendly atmosphere, and spacious two bedroom lodges.
This year they have a great-value Halloween package for €695 per family which includes a two-night stay in the two-bedroom Lodge with breakfast, a two-course dinner on the night of your choice in the Coach House Brasserie (Kids eat from children’s menu), and complimentary access to the leisure club.

As well as gorgeous coastal views, and access to its leisure centre with indoor pool, the Celtic Ross is renowned for its great food. Located in West Cork, this is ideally situated for a family break over October mid term in one of Ireland’s most beautiful locations.

The Holiday Inn Belfast is located in the heart of Belfast and is a great value option for a family stay in Belfast. Belfast is brimming with family attractions including Ireland’s award-winning Science and Discovery Centre W5, and make sure you take a spin to Colin Glen Forest Park to enjoy their Gruffalo Trail, ziplines and alpine coaster.

Treacys Oakwood Hotel is located in the heart of Shannon’s town centre, just 9 minutes drive from Bunratty Castle and Folk Park and less than an hour’s drive from the Cliffs of Moher. There is a bar and restaurant on site and it offers superb value for families looking to explore the Wild Atlantic Way over the Halloween break.

If you are looking for great value family hotels over Halloween break then look no further than the top-rated Croke Park Hotel. Football fans will love that they are staying right opposite Croke Park Stadium – be sure to book a the Skyline tour – it is one of the best family activities in Dublin for children 12 and above. The views from the top are incredible and the admission includes entrance to the GAA museum afterwards.

This top-rated 4-star hotel has a popular restaurant on site and Dublin city centre can be reached in 25 minutes by foot, or even less by metro or bus.

Did you know that Derry Halloween is Europe’s largest Halloween festival? It is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and the historic Walled City will be transformed with four days and nights of spooktacular activities. Trying to get accommodation in the city is next to impossible, but luckily the luxurious Redcastle Hotel, located on my favourite peninsula in Ireland, Innishowen, is only 25 minutes drive away, and they have a super Halloween Sleepover package for families.
Price for a one-night Happy Campers Halloween Sleepover is €297 on the 28th and 29th of October, to coincide with Derry Halloween, and includes an overnight stay in a two-bedroom suite, with an indoor glamping experience for kids – this includes camping kit essentials with torches, books, hot chocolate and spooky treats!

Get ready to be really and truly spooked at the birthplace of Halloween! This years Púca festival is on from the 29th October to 1st November 2026, and includes live music and comedy performances from top artists as well fire rituals, spooky activities and storytelling for all the family to enjoy.
The top rated Decoy Country Cottages are within easy reach of the festival hubs limited availability for festival dates. They offer all the advantages of a self-catering holiday with the added bonus of having superb onsite facilities.
Children will love the alpaca, pony and pet goat, and the Kids Den has toys and books for younger children, as well as a games room and fitness suite upstairs. Every possible need for babies and toddlers can be supplied free of charge, including a stair-gate, baby bouncer etc. They are pet friendly too!

View offer here13. Laois: Glamping Under The Stars, Hobbit House – Sleeps 6 from €399
I had the pleasure of visiting Glamping under the Stars a few years ago and loved staying in these cute Hobbit Houses. As well as a unique family holiday in Ireland, they are so well equipped that they offer the best of both worlds – a back to nature escape with all the modern comforts of home.
The newly opened luxurious 2 and 3-bedroom houses take the term glamping to a whole new level. All have a unique theme with murals from local artists and include ensuite bathrooms, kitchen, as well as a large, elevated deck or patio.
There is also a communal ‘Glamp House’ has a kitchen & dining area with a barbecue deck, campfire area, as well as children’s playhouse, sandpit and fairyhouse.
Prices from €399 for 2 nights in a standard hobbit house sleeping up to six. The luxury 2 bedroom Honeycomb House is €799 and the three bedroom Seanchai’s House is €899, sleeping six and eight respectively.

The Garryvoe Beach Homes are newly built homes with modern interiors, stunning views and a private garden to take advantage of them.
As the name suggests they are situated just two minutes walk from the Blue Flag Garryvoe Beach, however you can also avail of the leisure centre and swimming pool at the nearby Garryvoe Hotel, for a nominal daily charge.

The Loughrea Hotel & Spa is a super choice for families looking to explore Galway’s gorgeous coastline and Galway city, without breaking the bank. It has some super facilities on site too, including a Spa, restaurant and rooftop garden and sky lounge.

The Kilkenny Ormonde is practically a landmark in Kilkenny City, and is located just minutes away from the Medieval Mile. Its brasserie and lively bar attract locals as well as visitors, and it is the only city hotel in Kilkenny that has a leisure centre and spa.
A kids club operates during school holidays, making it a firm favourite for family staycations over the October mid term break. Watch out for Jurassic New Park After Dark Halloween Experience taking place on 30th and 31st October, and the numerous events for the Home of Halloween initiative.

The 4 Star Riverside Park Hotel and Leisure Club always offers great family hotel deals in Ireland. We stayed there a few years ago and enjoyed the leisure club, choice of dining options and family friendly rooms. There is a range of things to do nearby such as visiting Curacloe Beach, the National Heritage Centre, and Wells House and Gardens.

The Park Hotel Dungarvan is one of Waterford’s best family hotels. Peacefully located within 5 acres of landscaped grounds yet only a 5-minute walk from the pretty town of of Dungarvan, it offers the best of both worlds.

Top rated on TripAdvisor, these centrally located apartments offer all the benefits of self-catering, with hotel amenities, including complimentary access Talbot Hotel leisure centre, swimming pool and gym.

The newly refurbished 4-star Kilashee Hotel is situated on a 55 acre estate with fairy forest trail, Butterfly Garden, and a playground with a zipline. The leisure centre boasts a 25 metre swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, as well as a children’s pool.
This year their Halloween package can be booked for one, two or three nights and rooms can sleep up to five. Price includes stay with breakfast and three-course evening meal on the night of your choice.
Children will receive a Spooky goodie bag on arrival and a hot chocolate, and are invited to dress up in their Halloween costume with face painting on 31st October.
Price for a two-night stay is €635 for a family of four, and €755 for a family of five, and includes breakfast, a three-course meal on the evening of your choice – with kids buffet, 10% discount to Luggwood’s Enchanted Forest, activities described above, and full use of Leisure Centre.

The top-rated Limerick Strand Hotel is located in the heart of the city and ideally placed to enjoy Limerick’s annual Halloween Festival and the nearby Wild Atlantic Way. The onsite Energize Health Club is complimentary to guests and has a 20 metre pool, sauna and jacuzzi.
The No Treats Just Tricks package includes a two-night break including breakfast, a welcome Halloween pack for children, scheduled Halloween Arts and Crafts activities and discounts on local Halloween attractions.
22. Kildare: 5 Star Carton House, 2 Nights, 2ad & 2ch, €680
Following an extensive redesign, Carton House is now Ireland’s only Fairmont managed hotel. Adults will love the Carton House Spa is housed in the 18th century mill building, and boasts an 18 metre swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, as well as a two-storey gymnasium, while children will love the swimming pool, playground and its proximity to Emerald Park, just 30 minutes away.
Price of €680 is based on a two-night weekend stay for 2 adults and 2 children on the 30th of October.
