Some people like to do their Christmas shopping early, some love the bargains available over Thanksgiving weekend, while others want to wait until the Christmas tree lights are turned on at Rockefeller Centre. The lights are usually illuminated during the first week of December (date yet to be confirmed for 2021), so if you really want to see New York covered in Christmas lights, you should bear this in mind.
I have given you five highly rated hotels, in different locations, based on two or four sharing for three nights, departing the 2nd or 9th of December. However if you prefer to stay longer, change dates, or the number of people travelling, simply edit the search when you click on the links below.
All of my Christmas shopping breaks to New York are based on direct flights from Dublin airport with Aer Lingus. I decided NOT to price these deals on the cheapest fare – because if you are going Christmas shopping in New York you need to bring a suitcase! I stayed in the Beacon Hotel last year and loved it. Its location, close to Central Park and Manhattan’s Upper West Side is ideal for families or couples looking to be away from the hustle and bustle of Times Square. The rooms are very spacious and come with a kitchenette, which is ideal if travelling with kids – trust me, you will wake early with the time difference! You can walk to mid town in fifteen minutes or take the subway, the station is just minutes away.

5. Top Rated Evelyn Hotel B&B: 3rd / 10th December: 4 Sharing €790pp; 2 Sharing €964pp
This Art Deco boutique hotel is located in Midtown Manhattan in the trendy Nomad district (north of Madison Square Park). The bedrooms are stylish and are equipped with a flat-screen cable TV, Frette linens and heated floors, while bathrooms have premium amenities, marble sinks and rain showers.
A walking tour is offered on-site each Saturday and a complimentary continental breakfast is also included. This is one of the most highly rated hotels in New York according to Tripadvisor, with guests rating it as excellent.
