Marrakech great places to visit in November

Marrakech is usually a great choice at any time of year, but if you are looking for a good value getaway not too far from home with reliably warm weather, then this is a strong option. November in Marrakech brings pleasant conditions, ideal for exploring, with daytime highs around 20 to 25°C, making it perfect for wandering through the souks, heading out to the desert or hiking in the Atlas Mountains.

The city has a vibrant, sensory atmosphere, especially in the evenings when the main square fills with food stalls, street performers and music. Riads offer a peaceful escape from the busy streets, often with beautiful courtyards and rooftop terraces to relax in after a day of exploring or choose a luxury resort just outside the bustling city if you want more peace and quiet.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen, one of Europe's top food destinations by The Travel Expert

A timeless favourite in Scandinavia, Copenhagen is a wonderful place to experience the festive season. It is one of the few European cities where the Christmas markets open in early November, making it an excellent choice if you want to soak up the festive atmosphere before the busiest weeks.

November is chilly, with temperatures typically between 5°C and 9°C, but the city’s cosy cafés, candlelit streets and seasonal decorations create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Copenhagen’s most famous Christmas market is at Tivoli Gardens, which attracts more than one million visitors each year. The historic amusement park is transformed into a magical winter wonderland with thousands of twinkling lights, festive stalls, reindeer, rollercoasters and family friendly attractions, making it one of Europe’s best Christmas market destinations.

Beyond the markets, take time to stroll along the colourful Nyhavn waterfront, visit the fairytale inspired Tivoli Gardens, explore the city’s royal palaces and museums, or warm up in one of Copenhagen’s many bakeries with a cinnamon pastry and hot chocolate. The city’s compact centre makes it easy to explore on foot, adding to its charm as a November city break.

Valencia is a brilliant option for a November getaway if you want somewhere with a relaxed Mediterranean feel, plenty to see and do, and milder weather than much of Europe. November in Valencia typically brings temperatures around 18 to 23°C during the day, making it ideal for sightseeing without the intense summer heat.

The city has a great mix of old and new, from the historic Old Town with its narrow streets and lively squares to the futuristic architecture of the City of Arts and Sciences. It is easy to explore on foot or by bike, and the atmosphere feels more local and less crowded at this time of year.

You also have the bonus of the beach, with places like Malvarrosa Beach perfect for a stroll or a sunny afternoon, even if it is not quite swimming weather.

Vienna, Austria

Vienna, Austria

Vienna hosts one of the few European Christmas markets to open in early November, alongside Copenhagen, making it a great choice if you want to enjoy the festive atmosphere before the peak crowds arrive.

Vienna is a beautiful city at any time of year, but late November has a particularly special atmosphere as the festive season begins. The weather is crisp, with daytime temperatures typically between 5°C and 10°C, making it the perfect excuse to wrap up warm and enjoy the city’s elegant streets, cosy cafés and twinkling lights.

Vienna’s Christmas markets are some of the best in the world. They have been a tradition since 1298, and there are more than 12 markets across the city centre, with many more in the surrounding districts.

The market at Rathaus, or City Hall, is considered Vienna’s finest Christmas market and is also its largest, with more than 100 stalls. Alongside traditional wooden chalets selling gifts, crafts and seasonal treats, you will find a giant Christmas tree, Ferris wheel, carousel, ice rink and a dedicated children’s area.

Mexico city day fo the dead November

If you’ve seen the Disney movie Coco, you may know about Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a Mexican festival where families honour loved ones who have passed away and welcome their spirits back for a brief reunion. It takes place during the first two days of November, just after Halloween. I was lucky to experience it in Mexico last year and really enjoyed the atmosphere and celebrations.

In Mexico City, the festival is especially vibrant, with a world-famous parade featuring elaborate floats, traditional costumes, music, and dancing that fills the streets with life. New Zealand

kaitlin murphy in milford sound new zealand

I visited New Zealand from the end of November into December 2024 and experienced near perfect weather. Many days were bright and sunny, but it was not too hot for exploring. Temperatures ranged from around 20 to 25°C on the North Island, while the South Island was slightly cooler at around 18 to 23°C.

The days are long, sunny and ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking. There are also so many waterfalls, lakes and outdoor activities to enjoy, which I think are much more enjoyable when temperatures are in the mid 20s.

One place I would not miss on a trip to New Zealand is Queenstown. It is such a beautiful part of the world and somewhere I would return to in a heartbeat.
