Girls are very easily pleased when it comes to holidays, sun bathing and shopping is all we really want. Most lads on the other hand, don’t want much of either! During my days as a travel agent I booked my fair share of stag parties and lads holidays so I think I know the best places to recommend. Here are my top ten holidays for boys!
This needs no introduction! The city where anything goes, also happens to have some of Europe’s best night life. However, there is more to Amsterdam’s night life than the Red Light District! Take a trip along the canals and discover some cool cafés and night spots off the beaten track. You can even stay on a boat! Check out the Amstel Botel for an inexpensive and unique experience.
2. Oktoberfest, Munich
Oktoberfest is all about crazy nights, and crazy days! Over 6 million people visit Munich in September for a two week beer drinking festival. All of the German beer served is brewed locally so if you like nice beer and a party atmosphere, look no further.
Chill out on the beach during the day, take in a football match at the Nou Camp and enjoy some cracking night life. Barcelona is a great city that has something to offer everyone. If you don’t want crazy nights, there are plenty of cool places on the Ramblas to enjoy tasty tapas and a bottle of Rioja.
4. 6 Nations Rugby Tours / Premier League Football Trips
An easy option for a night or weekend away and there are so many cities to choose from. Liverpool, London and Manchester are the most popular football spots while Edinburgh, Paris and Rome are great options for a rugby weekend.
The ideal spot for 18 – 30 year olds, Magaluf is one of Spain’s liveliest beach resorts. Most of the hotels have the hottest live bands and DJ’s playing during the summer, with foam parties going on till sunrise. Check out the all-inclusive BH Mallorca which has an over 18’s water park and an open air festival all summer.
The ultimate trip for students, Thailand is a must visit for a mix of fun, sun and culture. Spend a few nights in Bangkok, go north for the real adventure in Chang Mai, and make sure you are there to experience a full moon party on Koh Phangan.
For lads who want a week away but don’t want to sit in the sun all day, a skiing holiday is a great choice. Get some ski races in during the day and enjoy the great aprés ski bars at night time. Places like the legendary La Folie Deuce in Val Thorens are worth checking out.
8. Las Vegas
Whether it’s your stag, mid life crisis or you just fancy a big blow out – Vegas is the place to go! Take in a fight, gamble to your hearts content or check out the pool parties at the Hard Rock Hotel ! Don’t forget the obligatory helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon and the trip to the shooting range #BoysAndTheirToys. Read my absolute guide to Las Vegas here.
9. Abu Dhabi
If you fancy some fast cars with a little culture thrown in, check out Abu Dhabi. If you can travel in November, see the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. If that’s not an option, stay in the luxurious Yas Viceroy hotel that over looks the track and take a spin in a Ferrari at Ferrari Land, which is only minutes away. Check out my husband’s blog on his trip here.
10. Costa del Sol
With daily direct flights from most Irish airports, the Costa del Sol is a great choice for a weekend away or a week long holiday. There are numerous resorts to choose from including Benalmadena with its stylish marina or Marbella for the ultimate in beach parties. No matter where you stay there are plenty of options for a lively week away or a golfing holiday, with a wide selection of night life to suit all tastes.
