From luxury villas in the Mediterranean, to a tree house in the forests of Norway, these luxury Airbnbs in Europe will give you plenty of travel inspiration.
I published a post recently on the best Airbnbs in Ireland and it proved so popular that I decided to look for similar properties elsewhere. I am an Airbnb Associate, so I spent hours searching the Airbnb website and found everything from ski-in ski-out chalets, to luxury villas in Santorini – I was amazed at the variety that is on offer. For this post I have chosen luxury Airbnbs in Europe, all of which come highly recommended from previous guests. Why not bookmark this post for when we can travel again?
1. Trullo Della Ghiandaia, Alberobello, Puglia, Italy
We spent a magical few days in Puglia last year stayed in our own trulli on the outskirts of Alberobello. Trullo Della Ghiandaia was one of the highlights of our trip – we didn’t want to leave it. It was a fairy tale like villa, complete with two restored trullos and three bedrooms. There was a large outdoor swimming pool, with a terrace, BBQ and pizza oven. Cristina, our host, greeted us with home made lasagne, delicious focaccia and wine from her fathers vineyard – what a welcome! I loved staying here, because we were able to go into Alberobello in the morning and evening time, without the usual day trippers being there.
2. Hector Cave House, Santorini, Greece
Santorini is one of Europe’s top bucket list destinations, and staying in a 250 year old cave house, that has been carved into the Caldera cliff just adds to the magic. This was originally a wine cellar, before becoming a family summer house, and is now one of the most popular luxury Airbnbs in Europe. The house has just one bedroom, but can sleep up to five people as there are sofa beds in the living area. The private terrance offers breathtaking sea views and the outdoor plunge pool will ensure you get the perfect Instagram shot.
3. Cavtat Villa, near Dubrovnik, Croatia
Cavtat is one of those picture perfect resorts with stunning sea views and a great food scene. It also happens to be located close enough to Dubrovnik to enjoy its highlights, but far enough away to avoid the crowds. We holidayed here a few years ago and loved it. This newly restored five-bedroomed villa is located close to the main centre and offers beautiful views of Cavtat Bay from its outdoor terrace.
4. Positano Private Villa with Pool, Amalfi Coast, Italy
A three bedroom villa with its own pool in Positano – this is the holiday of dreams. This luxurious villa has contemporary outdoor areas with stunning sea views and is conveniently located close to the centre of Positano and the beach. If you want to tour the Amalfi Coast, visit Capri and the ancient city of Pompeii, this is perfect place to stay.
5. 5-Star Villa in the Côte d’Azur, France
With a heated pool from early April to November, and a clear view of Saint-Tropez, this south-facing 4-bedroomed villa deserves a place on this list of luxury Airbnbs in Europe. Relax in the five-seater outdoor jacuzzi or under the thatch roof canopy, and enjoy the stunning views of the Côte d’Azur while the kids play in the shaded playhouse.
6. Villa Llenaire, Puerto Pollensa, Majorca, Spain
Puerto Pollensa is one of my favourite Spanish resorts. Not only is it perfectly situated on Majorca’s northern tip, but its old town has some great restaurants and bars too. This contemporary four-bedroomed villa overlooks the bay of Puerto de Pollensa, and comes with an outdoor pool, sun terrace and BBQ area, all perfectly positioned to enjoy the sea-views.
7. Dunas Villa, Dunas Douradas, Algarve, Portugal
A popular complex with Irish holiday makers, the luxurious Dunas Douradas villas offer all the benefits of self-catering with hotel facilities close by. Located between the upmarket resorts of Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo, with the beach just a 10-15 minute walk away, the location is superb. This beautiful two-bedroomed villa has a heated pool with a separate kids section This is an Airbnb ‘Plus’ home, meaning you will find a home that is full of character with one-of-a-kind details, exceptional hospitality, fully equipped kitchens and fast WiFi.
8. Å Auge – River Eye – Treehouse, Norway
An outdoor lovers dream, fall asleep under the stars in this luxury treehouse, that is surrounded by nature. Depending on the time of year you visit, you can fish in the stream in front of your house, forage for food in the forest, or go skiing in the nearby ski resort.
This treehouse is spacious with three bedrooms so is suited to families and groups, as well as couples looking for a relaxing retreat. Instead of electricity, you will find candles, solar lamps and a solar phone charger. If you need to connect to the outside world, free WiFi is available in the nearby cabin (50 meters walk), along with plenty of power-points for charging.
9. Villa with Heated Pool, Chania, Crete
Chania, on the western side of Crete is a beautiful region full of Venetian towns and stunning beaches. We stayed here last year and loved exploring it. This villa is ideally located just a few minutes drive from the centre of Chania and the beach. It has five bedrooms, one of which is an independent studio, and it also boasts a heated pool, kids pool, indoor jacuzzi, gym as well as a playroom with Playstation 4 and 50″ HDTV.
10. Chalet a la Casa in Zermatt, Switzerland
This luxury chalet is superbly located, with a sunny position in the summer months, and ski-in ski-out accommodation during the winter. It is less than ten minutes walk to the centre of Zermatt and just 150 meters from the ski bus station. With two bedrooms a sauna, an outdoor jacuzzi and a large heated terrace, it is the perfect location to enjoy mountainous views all year round.
