With year round sunshine, countless sandy beaches, and plenty of accessible flights, it is no surprise that the Canary Islands are one of our most popular destinations. Whether you like the elaborate resorts with all-inclusive options, or boutique hotels with Michelin Star restaurants, I have plenty of 5 star hotels in Canary Islands to tempt you.
Not all of the hotels I have selected are adult only hotels in the Canary Islands, but all have been chosen with adult stays in mind. All of these 5 star hotels in Canary Islands for adults are highly rated, but it is important to be aware that facilities and service are subject to change.

Best 5 star hotels in Tenerife for adults:
1. Barceló Royal Hideaway Corales Suites, La Caleta
The modern and understatedly elegant Barceló Royal Hideaway Corales Suites is located at the fishing village of La Caleta, a few kilometres north of Costa Adeje. This award-winning hotel has an airy spaciousness to it with varying room and suite types, including private pools and fully equipped kitchens with private chefs for hire.
Its rooftop infinity swimming pool is the ultimate in luxury – the pool is attended by attentive but discreet staff, you don’t really notice them, but the minute you need something they are there.
It is superbly located to watch the sun set over the village below, where you can go to one of the many fine restaurants, including the popular La Masía del Mar.
This hotel is a real experience and even if you don’t stay here, you should treat yourself to a lunch or dinner in one of its restaurants, or the ground-floor pool bar – it is undoubtedly one of best 5 star hotels in the Canary Islands.
2. Ritz Carlton, Abama, Guía de Isora
Just over 15 kms north of Adeje, the luxurious Ritz Carlton Hotel is built on a large site on the coast, and has a shuttle bus down to its beach restaurant, El Mirador. This hotel has close to 500 bedrooms and suites, a gym facility and a luxury Spa.
The hotel is renowned for its culinary excellence and there are many dining options to choose from, including the Michelin-starred Japanese-fusion restaurant Abama Kabuki. The hotel sources its produce locally and as organic as possible from neighbouring plantations, particularly bananas. It also boasts a beautiful rooftop bar with views to the island of La Gomera.
3. Iberostar Grand El Mirador, Costa Adeje – Adult-Only hotel
The adult-only Iberostar Grand El Mirador is located beside the beach in Costa Adeje. All 124 suites feature canopy beds, dressing rooms and a living area, and most offer sea views.
A heated freshwater pool ensures this is highly sought after during the winter months, and with three restaurants, two bars, and a a luxury Spa, it is no surprise that it is the number 1 rated hotel in Costa Adeje on TripAdvisor.
4. Bahía del Duque, Costa Adeje
Located in Costa Adeje, the Bahía del Duque was one of the first 5 star hotels on the island and is a landmark in the area. It is adjacent to other 5 star hotels in Tenerife such as Hotel Vincci La Plantación and Jardines de Nivaria. The Bahia del Duque is an extensive property designed as a Canarian villa, and is set in vast tropical gardens with direct access to the beach.
It has over 400 rooms, suites, and villas with private pools, and the views over the sea are stunning. It has a thalassotherapy pool, using seawater which is stimulating and reportedly detoxifying for the body. The hotel has a health Spa with the latest in beauty treatments at reasonable prices.
There are restaurants specialising in Canarian, Italian, Japanese and Spanish cuisines, and many options to have a drink outdoors and on the seafront. There is plenty to do with beach and coastal walks as well as an astronomy observatory in the hotel.
5. Hotel Botánico & the Oriental Spa Garden, Puerto de la Cruz
Located next to the botanical gardens that give its name to this hotel, the long standing Hotel Botánico was refurbished in 2021. You can walk down to the sea front of Puerto de la Cruz in minutes and get a taxi back up for under €5.
The hotel boasts four restaurants, where you can enjoy Asian, Italian, Mediterranean and Canarian cuisine, and the Piano Bar is great option for pre- or post-dinner drinks.
A big feature of this hotel is its Oriental Spa – voted the best spa in Europe. It covers 3,500 metres housed in its own building, and there is also a hairdresser service here.
This is one of the best value 5 star hotels in Canary Islands for adults – possibly because it is located in the north of the island, its room rates seem to be lower than in the hotels in the south.

6. Hotel Fariones
This long-established favourite of Irish holidaymakers has undergone a complete rebuild in the last two years. I stayed here many years ago but its new modern décor bears no resemblance to the traditional style it once held.
However, it still follows the old layout and building footprint, and maintains its privileged location on the sea front where the sound of the waves at night can send you blissfully to sleep.
This revamped version of Los Fariones boasts a heated infinity pool and rooftop bar, yet you can still enjoy the activity of Puerto del Carmen next door. The nearby fishing port has a couple of Spanish fish restaurants, and hotel guests have access to the adjacent sports club and gym.

7. Secrets Lanzarote Resort & Spa, Puerto Calero – Adult Only Hotel
Secrets Lanzarote Resort & Spa was the first Secrets Resort to open in Europe, following on from their huge success in the Caribbean. Located close to the marina in upmarket Puerto Calero, it is the perfect location for adults looking for a relaxing seafront location within a resort style hotel.
There are four heated outdoor pools, one of which is exclusive for Preferred Club Members, as well as sport facilities, fitness centre, scuba diving centre and luxury Spa. This may not be as luxurious as some of the other 5 star hotels in the Canary Islands listed, but it is a popular choice for adults looking for all-inclusive hotels in Canary Islands.
8. Lani Suites, Puerto del Carmen – Adult Only Hotel
The exclusive Lani’s Suites has just 25 luxury suites all boasting sea views. This boutique hotel is one of the most luxurious hotels on the island, and and has direct access to the beach. If you let Lani’s Suites know when you are arriving, they will arrange a complimentary airport transfer for you.

9. La Cala Suites, Playa Blanca – Adult Only Hotel
La Cala Suites is a boutique hotel located on the seafront in fashionable Playa Blanca. It has only 41 rooms and 4 villas, so you can expect personal service and a relaxed atmosphere.
Two-bedroom villas have private pools and kitchenettes – this is a great choice for those looking for 5 star hotels in Canary Islands for group getaways with friends.
10. Meliá Las Salinas, Costa Teguise – Adult Only Hotel
An old staple of the Spanish market, the adult-only Meliá Las Salinas hotel has also undergone refurbishment recently. The award-winning architect ensured that this hotel is part of listed Lanzarote Heritage.
The hotel boasts extensive gardens and an 1,800 metre pool – the large spacious and open-air areas in the hotel make for a very pleasant environment.

11. Seaside Palm Beach Hotel, Maspalomas
This hotel is located at the end of Maspalomas beach and promenade, tucked away quietly at the edge of a nature reserve -La Charca, the pond, de Maspalomas.
The hotel has an extensive pool area in large gardens with direct access to the beach, and there is an elegant cocktail bar with entertainment at night.
The buffet merits a special mention – renowned for being one of the best in the Canary Islands – they grill fish and meat to order and some evenings they even have lobster. There are half-board and all inclusive packages available, and while there is a kids club, the atmosphere is distinctly adult.
12. Riu Palace Maspalomas – Adult Only Hotel
The Hotel Riu Palace Maspalomas is superbly located beside the sand dunes in Maspalomas and just 800 metres from the beach. It was completely renovated in 2021 when it re-opened as a luxury 5 star hotel.
The hotel boasts two swimming pools, a wellness centre, as well as day and night time entertainment including live shows. It offers a selection of dining options including live cooking stations in the buffet restaurant.

13. Barceló Royal Hideaway Santa Catalina, Las Palmas
The classic Barceló Royal Hideaway Santa Catalina is a grand 19th century urban hotel in Las Palmas. It has undergone an extensive refurbishment over the last couple of years, and the rooms have been carefully restored using some of the original mahogany fittings.
It has hosted many famous people including writer, Agatha Christie. There are various types of Deluxe rooms and suites, as well as family suites.
It is partly owned by the Town Hall and is located in a beautiful public park, and boasts massive grounds to explore. Don’t miss the enormous rooftop bar with great views of the sea and the city, you may even be lucky to catch occasional live music.

Best 5 star hotel in Fuerteventura for adults
14. Hotel Secrets Bahia Real Resort & Spa, Correlejo – Adult Only Hotel
As with many hotels on the Canary islands the Hotel Secrets Bahia Real Resort & Spa is spacious with many open and uncovered areas. Located at the start of the stunning dunes of Corralejo, this adult-only hotel has a beach bar with a walkway over the beach, which is often used for weddings because of the views of beach, dunes and crystal clear turquoise water.
The theme of this hotel is opulence and calm luxury, a perfect setting to unwind in. The hotel was recently refurbished, and the bedrooms are spacious with large balconies designed with a native Canarian theme. The property has two large swimming pools as well as a large Spa with a wellness area and extensive treatment rooms.
As the hotel is located about a five minute walk from the town of Corralejo, the main town in the north of this quiet island, it is easy to enjoy the nice bars, restaurants and good shopping facilities there. Don’t miss a trip to the nearby island of Lobos – an uninhabited nature reserve which you can get boat trips to.

15. Hotel Jardin Tecina, La Gomera
Last but not least…. An adventurous ferry ride from Los Cristianos in Tenerife will lead you to this hidden gem of an island, La Gomera. It is very quiet and peaceful, and popular with hill walkers and nature lovers. One of the few hotels on the island, Hotel Jardin Tecina is owned and managed by the ferry company Fred Olsen, and caters to many Swiss and German tourists.
Spread over the extensive property the rooms are in detached two floor buildings, most with stunning sea views. The hotel grows its own fruit and vegetables on site, making for delicious food.
Golfers will fall in love with the adjacent golf course, which starts at the top of a hill and meanders down its slopes against the back drop of the sea.
Although officially only a 4-star hotel, I felt it deserved a place on this list – this is one hotel I dream about in the depths of winter in Ireland!
