Quinta do Lago feels more like a community than a holiday resort. I was amazed at the sheer size of Quinta, as well as the outlandish villas. Many celebrities own mansions here, with €10 million homes lining the avenues, I guarantee there will be lots of jaw dropping moments!
However, contrary to what you might think, it is possible to stay here without breaking the bank. Quinta do Lago is very popular with families during school holidays and during the summer months, so travelling outside these periods is the best time to pick up a bargain – like this one!
We visited in February and enjoyed some great weather, but even if you are not so lucky, there is still so much to do. Quinta do Lago boasts world class sports and leisure facilities including 3 championship golf courses, and it is considered one of the best golf resorts in Europe.
The Campus – a state of the art facility for sports enthusiasts as well as professional athletes, is another superb facility. There is a 25 metre heated pool, tennis and padel courts, studio classes, bike hire, and lessons and personal training can be arranged in each of these areas.
There are 14 restaurants and bars to suit all tastes, including Umami – the Algarve’s most refined Asian dining experience, and Bovino Steakhouse – I can personally vouch for the food here, we had an exceptional meal.
There are plenty of casual options too, such as Danos Sports Bar – so you don’t miss your favourite team sports. Brunch is practically a pastime here so you can expect some delicious and healthy options in Pure and Noa. See Quinta do Lago restaurants here.

When it comes to beach bars and restaurants – you will be spoilt for choice. You have to have the famous prawns at 2Passos and don’t miss Marias for cocktails and sea views. It is best to book in advance, especially if you are thinking about going for sundowners.
There are several hotels and resorts within Quinta do Lago Resort and Martinhal Quinta, where we stayed, is one of them. They have 2 and 3 bedroom townhouses as well as 3, 4 and 5 bedroom villas, all of which have private pools.
We stayed in a 4-bedroom villa and it was superb. It was extemely well equipped and the finish and decor were stunning. You can see a full room tour on my Martinhal Instagram highlight here.
There is a large communal pool which is heated, as well as an indoor pool – note the private pools in villas are usually not heated. You can also enjoy a tasty breakfast at the snack bar, or get freshly baked bread from the onsite mini market and dine in.
Martinhal Resorts are renowned for its family-friendly facilities, and their sister property Martinhal Sagres is regarded as one of the best family resorts in Europe. Martinhal Quinta also offers good facilities for families including a Kids Club and creche, however if you travel outside of school holidays you are likely to find plenty of couples and friends, as well as families staying here.
The Quinta do Lago lifestyle lends itself to exercise, so brisk walks to brunch spots are part and parcel of the experience, as is walking, cycling or running along the boardwalk.
The 4.8km boardwalk is a fabulous asset to the resort. It stretches along the coast, through the Ria Formosa Natural Park and the plan is to extend it all the way from Faro airport to the Vilamoura Marina.
I recommend hiring bikes, even for a day and cycling the boardwalk – with obligatory stops in the fabulous beach restaurants obviously!

However if you just want to relax, you can catch an Uber to most restaurants and facilities for less than €5. You can also choose to simply stay in and enjoy your luxurious villa or townhouse.
Day Spa Hotels will come to your villa and provide Spa treatments from the comfort of your bed or sun lounger! I was treated to a full body massage in the garden, it was pure bliss!
So whether you are a family looking for a luxury break, or a couple of friends who like great food and superb beach walks, this special offer to Quinta do Lago is just the ticket!
