winter city breaks

Weekend In Porto, 3 Nights, Flights & 4-Star Hotel, 3rd October, €259!

Porto is one of the oldest cities in Europe and has a medieval feel to it. Why not choose some where different for a city break and try a weekend in Porto.

We enjoyed a weekend in Porto last year and loved it!  This city looks almost medieval with colourful buildings everywhere, I was genuinely amazed at how beautiful the city was. The Ribeira district is a Unesco World Heritage site and is full of local wine bars, restaurants and colourful buildings close to the waterfront. Enjoy a glass of wine or a meal by the river and soak up the atmosphere, for a fraction of what you would pay at home. In fact Porto of late has become one of Europe’s top food destinations.

You wont find any celebrity restaurants here, but lots of local eateries serving traditional Portuguese food, at rock bottom prices. Renowned as the birthplace of port, there are also numerous port houses offering tastings and tours. There are plenty of good places to go at night time too, with bands playing in various venues across the city.

weekend in Porto

I found a great deal staying in the 4-star Hotel da Música. Located in the iconic Mercado do Bom Sucesso building, which is now home to Porto’s re-invented food market, this hotel is modern in design, yet surrounded by tradition. Enjoy a glass of port in the Pavarotti Bar and don’t miss Sunday brunch in Restaurant Bom Sucesso. Highly rated on TripAdvisor, this is a great option for a weekend in Porto.

Fly from Dublin on the 3rd of October and enjoy a three-night stay in the 4-star Hotel da Música for only €224 per person! Top Tip: When you click on the hotel link below, check the various rates with all the suppliers. At the time of issue it is cheaper to click through to the hotel’s own website, €290 is the total for a three-night stay.

Sarah Slattery, The Travel Expert reviews Barcelona

Full of famous landmarks like the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell, but Barcelona is as much about the simple things as the world famous sights. Strolling along the Ramblas, watching the street artists and stopping off for some tapas and a glass of Rioja is pretty special too. Barcelona is buzzing. There is great shopping, great nightlife and of course great food! You can also spend a day at the beach, take a trip to Port Aventura, Europe’s largest theme park, or visit one of the world’s biggest football clubs. It’s safe to say, there is something for everyone in Barcelona.
