Easter Weekend in Stockholm, Flights & 4 Star Hotel, 3 Nights, €392!

stockholm-438231_1280_opt

Looking for somewhere different for your next city break? Take advantage of this great offer and spend Easter weekend in Stockholm.

Considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Stockholm is on the cutting edge of design, fashion and nightlife. Multicoloured buildings are next to sleek modern skyscrapers, it really is such an impressive sight. Stroll though the old town filled with cobbled stone streets, quirky shops and art galleries, or experience the buzzing nightlife in the main city centre. Live like a local and take some time out for a ‘fika’, and enjoy chatting over a coffee and some Swedish cake!

The 48-hour Stockholm card gives you access to lots of attractions and is great value. Why not take a hop on hop off boat tour and explore all the sights – it beats the bus! One of the top attractions is the Abba Museum, a must for any ABBA fans or wannabe singers… Forget about selfies, here you can be the 5th member of the band, dress up and sing in the Polar Studio, and your material is recorded under your personal ID number!

easter weekend in Stockholm

Easter is a great time to visit this remarkable city, as the city is less crowded. I found a great deal in one of Stockholm’s hip hotels, the Story Hotel. Originally an old fire station and former City Hall, and is now a modern design worthy of Swedish architects Koncept. This hotel is rated as one of the top hotels in Stockholm on trip advisor and it receives great reviews.

Fly direct from Dublin on the 10th of April and spend Easter weekend in Stockholm. The flight departs on Good Friday and returns on Easter Monday so no time of work is needed 😉. This three-night break is only €392 and includes flights and hotel with breakfast! Note: click through to hotel website on the link below, it has the lowest rate of €63 per room per night.

girls on beach_opt

Why not get a few friends together and plan a weekend in Marbella over the May bank holiday weekend.

Marbella has been a firm favourite with Irish holidaymakers for many years and it’s not difficult to see why. It’s got sun, fun and a little glitz and glamour to boot! It has some of Spain’s best night clubs as well as a marina full of luxury yachts. With short daily flights from Dublin, Cork and Shannon you can however, manage a weekend in Marbella without breaking the bank.

Marbella has great nightlife, shopping and beaches so it is probably the perfect choice for a girls weekend away. It’s not only about the bling though, the backdrop of the mountains and the beautiful old town, ensure it keeps some of it’s original charm. There are numerous great restaurants and shops too, so it is safe to say Marbella caters for everyone.

I have chosen the 4* NH Marbella hotel which is located on Marbella’s ‘Golden Mile’ and just five minutes walk to the beach. Highly recommend on TripAdvisor and awarded a certificate of excellence, this is a super choice for a girls weekend in Marbella.

Weekend Break in Venice – 3 Nights, Flights & Hotel, 5th September – €366pp

canal-1209808_1920

A weekend break in Venice is the ultimate escape for any couple looking for a romantic retreat. This gem of a city has such a unique charm, in it’s own right, but still possesses all the Italian qualities that will make you want to keep going back for more.

I know it’s a bit of a clichè, but a Gondola ride along one of the many canals of Venice simply has to be done on a weekend break in Venice. There is something very relaxing about floating on water and taking in the sights around you. It will be hard not to fall in love with Venice after one of these. You may want to have the obligatory coffee on Piazza San Marco (St. Marks Square) but what ever you do don’t miss the Campanile tower on the same square, which offers you brilliant sea views of the Adriatic.

Weekend Break in Venice

Rialto Bridge is also a must-see and you won’t be hard pressed to find delicious local cuisine in one of the many restaurants in the same area. The Italians invented pizza so it is safe to say there is no where better to try it, but make sure you seek out Antica Forno Venezia, it is my favourite place for pizza in Venice.

I found a great deal in the highly rated Mercurio Venezia Hotel. It is just minutes from St Marks Square and is the perfect setting for a weekend break in Venice. Breakfast is also included in the price! The dates I chose are from Thursday the 5th of September until Sunday 8th of September, but if these dates don’t suit simply edit the search via the link below, to suit your requirements.

The price of €366pp covers the cost of the hotel and flights. The Flights are direct to Venice Treviso with Ryanair and cost €151pp and the hotel costs just €215 per personYou can check out information on connections to Venice city centre here.

Weekend in Rome, 21st March, Flights & 4 Star Hotel, 3 Nights, €198!

colosseum-792202_1280_opt

A weekend in Rome is a great idea at any time of year. No matter how many times you visit you can’t help but marvel at its beauty.

You would want to be made of stone if Rome did not impress you. There are ancient wonders at every corner: the Vatican, Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain – need I go on? I love admiring the stylish Italians on the Via Veneto, as well as spotting the locals hanging their washing on their side street balconies. There are Italian trattoria’s serving fresh pasta on every street and the aroma of fresh coffee fills the air – a weekend in Rome is a feast for the senses.

October Bank Holiday Weekend In Porto, Flights & 4* Apartment, 3 Nights, €259!

porto

Porto is one of the oldest cities in Europe! Why not choose some where different for a city break this year and try a weekend in Porto – you won’t be disappointed.

I spent the October Bank holiday weekend in Porto last year and loved it!  This medieval city is full of colourful buildings, I was genuinely amazed at how beautiful the Porto was. The Ribeira district is a Unesco World Heritage site and is full of local wine bars, restaurants and old buildings close to the waterfront. Enjoy a glass of wine or a meal by the river, and soak up the atmosphere, for a fraction of what you would pay at home. In fact Porto of late has become one of Europe’s top food destinations. You wont find top celebrity restaurants here, but lots of local eateries serving delicious Portuguese food, at rock bottom prices. Renowned as the birthplace of port, there are also numerous wine cellars offering tastings and tours. There are plenty of good places to go at night time too, with bands playing in various venues across the city.

weekend in Porto

Porto is not all about food and wine though. No visit would be complete without seeing the Se Cathedral, Saõ Francisco church and Clérigos Tower. You will also be drawn to the many churches with blue tiles that are scattered throughout the city. Like all cities there is a great shopping street and let’s not forget Porto is beside the coast, so if you dont fancy a boat trip along the Douro River, why not spend the day at the beach, which is only 15 minutes from the centre of Porto.  For more information read my blog on why you need to choose Porto for your next city break.

I found a great deal staying in the 4* Porto Cinema apartments. Highly rated on tripadvisor and centrally located, this is a great choice to explore all that Porto has to offer.  Fly from Dublin on the 26th of October and enjoy a three night stay here for only €259 per person!

Porto is one of the oldest cities in Europe and has a medieval feel to it. Why not choose some where different for a city break and try a weekend in Porto – you won’t be disappointed.

We enjoyed a weekend in Porto last year and loved it!  This city is almost medieval with colourful buildings everywhere, I was genuinely amazed at how beautiful the city was. Enjoy a glass of wine or a meal by the river and soak up the atmosphere for a fraction of what you would pay at home. In fact Porto of late has become one of Europe’s top food destinations.

5 Cities for Great Christmas Shopping!

christmas-decoration-1095037_1280_opt

Christmas shopping is always a good excuse for a getaway. You can even justify the cost of the trip by the savings you make! From London to New York, check out these 5 cities for great Christmas shopping!

London

With sterling so low against the euro there has never been a better time to hit Oxford Street! John Lewis (famous for it’s amazing Christmas adds) and Selfridges are worth going for their window displays alone! Also its nice to shop in places that you don’t have here in Ireland. Almost 2km in length, Oxford Street has all the top high street stores too. Covent Garden is a must for some quirky souvenirs and trendy boutiques and of course no visit to London would be complete without a trip to Harrods and Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge!

Getting there: Flights & 2 Nights in a 4* hotel from €186 – Click here.

Top 5 cities for Christmas shopping

Rome

One of the great things about shopping in Rome is the boutiques. Unlike some of Europe’s big shopping cities, Rome isn’t full of department stores. Prada, Fendi, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace – some of the best designer shops are Italian and they are all here, on the stunning Via Condotti.  Thankfully, for most of us, Rome has lots of inexpensive shops too. The Via del Corso has most of the familiar high street stores, but don’t neglect the side streets! You will find lots of Italian shoe shops, jewellery and clothing at very reasonable prices and with different stock to what you will find at home. Many shops still close at lunchtime from 1-3 so it’s the perfect city to enjoy some nice Italian food over a leisurely lunch. Save the sight seeing for night time when Rome’s remarkable buildings are illuminated at Christmas time.

Getting there: Flights & 3 Nights in a 3* Hotel €155 – Click here

Rome Christmas Market

New York

Shopping in New York is great at any time of year but Christmas time is really special. The tree at Rockefeller centre with the ice skating rink , wandering through central park in winter time and ogling at the window displays in Macys and Bloomingdales – New York is Christmas personified! Plan to spend at least a half day in Macys, check out the bargains in Chinatown and visit the designer shops on Fifth Avenue. Early risers will enjoy Century 21 early ( opens from 7.30) and the 24 hour Apple store. If you have time, take the trip to the outlets at Woodbury Common or Jersey Gardens. For more details on the best places to shop in New York, check out my blog post.

Getting there: Flights & 3 Nights 3* Hotel €758 – Click here.

Top 5 cities for Christmas shopping

Barcelona

Barcelona may not be renowned as a major shopping city but actually there are over 35,000 shops in Barcelona city! The pedestrianised Las Ramblas is one of Europe’s most iconic streets. Witnessing the street artists perform, stopping for some tapas along the way, its all part of the Barcelona shopping experience. Spanish brands like Zara, Desigual, Custo have flagship stores around Passeig de Gracia and Diagonal Mar and prices are about 20% lower than in Ireland. If you are looking for some trendy boutiques, head for the Gothic quarter, and you will find some cool tapas bars here to stop for lunch too.

Getting there: Flights & 3 Nights in a 3* Hotel €151 – Click here

Top 5 cities for Christmas shopping

Berlin

A Christmas market break seems like the perfect way to see some of Europe’s top cities while enjoying the festivities. You could choose Budapest, Prague, Krakow or Vienna, but Berlin has a staggering 50 different markets to choose from. Enjoy some mulled wine and carol singers as you shop the market stalls for hand made trinkets. Of course Berlin now rivals Paris and Rome in the shopping stakes so make sure you check out Kurfurstendamm, one of Berlin’s longest boulevards which is lined with high street stores and designer shops.

Athens Weekend Break, 27th September, 4 Nights, Flights & 4* Hotel, €284!

athens-142761_1280_opt

A tale of two cities,  Athens combines the ancient Acropolis with a modern city, full of wonder at every corner.

You can’t help but marvel at the Acropolis. One of the seven wonders of the ancient world, it is visible from all over the city. The pedestrianised area is almost like an open air museum yet the modern city below has trendy shops, top class restaurants and a true cosmopolitan feel. Winter time is a great time to visit as temperatures can be too hot in the Summer months, and you still have the stunning sea views 😍 If you fancy a stroll along the beach, there are plenty outside the city to choose from, just a short bus ride away.

I found a great deal staying in the highly rated Athens Tiare Hotel. This hotel is very highly rated on tripadvisor and is in a fantastic location. Fly from Dublin on the 27th of September and enjoy an Athens weekend break for four nights here for only €284 per person.
