10 Travel Buys When Airport Shopping Online or In-Store

airport shopping collage

From skin care to self tanning lotion, cologne to alcohol, I’ve hand picked 10 travel buys for airport shopping online or in-store.

Are you missing the scents and sounds of the airport? Can’t wait to get on a plane again? I miss the whole experience, from airport shopping to pre flight drinks, and that belt of heat that surrounds me when I step out on to the aircraft steps!

With international travel set to resume shortly, now might be a good time to plan your journey. It is expected that we will need to allow extra time for security checks and social distancing measures, but what about the all important airport shopping?  I love spending time at The Loop, browsing the cosmetic counters and trying the latest perfumes – but samples and testers may not be as readily available during these times.

To give you some shopping inspiration I have selected some travel exclusives currently available at The Loop that I think you should watch out for when airport shopping, as well as some of my personal favourites beauty buys below.

1. Jo Malone London Fragrances, Candles and Diffusers

Jo Malone cologne is available for airport shopping online

No visit to the airport would be complete without a trip to the Jo Malone London counter. Jo Malone candles are the perfect gift, and I love their complimentary hand massages – although we may need to wait a while longer for these to return.

To ensure you get your favourite cologne, or one of the signature candles or diffusers, it might be best shop online before you go. I was given a gift of English Pear & Freesia Cologne recently and I love its fresh scent.

2. M.A.C. Cosmetics

travel exclusive sets available in Duty Free I use M.A.C products daily, and I always make a point of purchasing something at the M.A.C counter when I am in The Loop. My staples are Strobe Cream, the Extended Play mascara, and the Mineralize Skin Finish. I loved the Constructivist paint pots, (please bring it back), but have managed to settle for their regular eye shadows now.

M.A.C currently has travel exclusives available for airport shopping. A Warm Look In A Box (above) is priced at just €43, and includes In extreme dimension 3D Black Lash Mascara, a Twin Eye Shadow set, Blusher, and a Satin Lipstick.

 4. Estée Lauder Skincare

Estee Lauder skincare duty free

Estée Lauder’s signature serum has been one of my favourite skincare products for many years. It is not cheap, but I find it excellent and that my skin looks less lined when I use it. I usually treat myself to this when I’m travelling. According to Estée Lauder the ‘multi-dimensional technology delivers fast visible renewal’, and I can not argue with that!

The 75 ml bottle is priced at €120 in many retailers, but the 100ml bottle is available for €130 at The Loop.

estee lauder travel exclusive gift sets only available at the airport

Estée Lauder have many travel exclusives available at The Loop. You can see them all here, however this Nutritious Overnight Radiance Collection caught my eye. It contains a lotion to detoxify and prepare the skin, a nutritious foam cleanser, and a Super-Pomegranate Night Cream / Mask – all for just €119.

5. Tom Ford Beauty and Fragrance

Tom Ford lipstick

Tom Ford is renowned for his sensual fragrances, and I must confess I am a fan of Black Orchid, but I also love his lipsticks. I like to treat myself to one periodically, especially if I’m travelling to a sun destination. They are full of moisture, and Lip Colour Sheer Paradiso compliments sun-kissed skin perfectly!

6. Clinique

Clinique travel exclusive gift sets only available for airport shopping

Clinque was one of the first brands I used when I decided to get serious about my skincare. I used the 3-Step Skin Care system and I always found this travel exclusive great value. It includes travel sizes of Liquid Facial Soap Mild, Clarifying Lotion 2. and a full size Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion, all for just €35.50

Clinique Moisture Surge Spray - a great beauty buy for travelling

I have changed brands many times over the years, but Clinique has some stand out products that I still love to use. My favourite is the moisture surge face spray. This is a Godsend when travelling, I love to spray it on the plane or at the beach. It is a fine mist spray that contains moisture and active aloe, but no oil, and can be used over or under make up.

I also like Clinique’s eye make up remover – Take the Day off Lids Lashes and Lips. This is very handy to have on holidays, especially is you are wearing more eye make up than you would normally wear. It normally retails for €23, but it is available at The Loop for just €15!

7.  Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Lip Tin and Hand Cream

Elizabeth Arden travel exclusives are only available for airport shopping
I love both of these products, and to get both for just €15.50 is an absolute bargain. My hands and lips are always dry when travelling and I love to be able to reach for these inside by hand bag – they are both less than 100 ml, so I am able to keep them with me on the plane.

This set is part of a wider promotion that is currently available at The Loop, whereby if you buy one item, you will save 20% on an other selected beauty item – see participating brands here.

8. Vita Liberata Self Tanning MousseVita Liberata self tanning mousse.

Vita Liberata is my favourite self tanning brand. I have tried many different tanning brands and I don’t think any others compare.  I have tried most of their products, but prefer the Fabulous Medium Self Tanning Mousse. I like the natural colour, the way it wears off, and also how there is little or no scent.

I have noticed Vita Liberata also have a travel exclusive, which would be very handy for travelling. I haven’t purchased this yet, but at €20.50, I intend to!  Vita Liberata is one of the brands involved in a promotion at The Loop, whereby if you buy one item, you will save 20% on an other selected beauty item – see participating brands here.

9. Clarins Body-Smoothing Moisture Milk

Clarins Body Lotion

I was a little late to the party on this one, but when my travel buddies told me about this body lotion a few years ago, I have been hooked ever since. This non-greasy body lotion melts onto your skin and dries in immediately, without any residue. The floral fragrance is delicate and fresh, and according to Clarins, it hydrates your skin for 48 hours.

At a mere €20 for a 400ml bottle, this is a steal, and one of my must-haves when airport shopping in The Loop.

10.  Tommy Hilfiger Fragrance

Tommy Hilfiger fragrance discounted for duty free shopping

Tommy Hilfiger fragrances offer great value. Priced at only €20 for Tommy and Tommy Girl, they are an ideal gift for teens or young adults. I have bought Tommy Girl for my niece over the years, and may purchase for my own kids now – considering they are a little older since my last overseas trip!

It is amazing what you can find out with a little research. I would consider myself a frequent traveller and I didn’t even know many of these services were available. Here are 10 things to do in Dublin Airport before you fly. I’m really looking forward to my next trip so I can try some!

Get your make up done.

Many people don’t know this but you can get your make up done in MAC for €25. You can pre book a 30 minute session and the cost is redeemable against any MAC purchase – sounds like no brainer to me! Hence the above pic – I tried it recently and it was great! Call +35319446431 (T1) or +35319440754 ( T2) to make an appointment.

Get your hair done.

If you are like me, you are never fully ready before you walk out the door. Banish the bad hair day by trying one of Aveda’s three minute solutions. They can solve frizz, flat, curls and flyaway hair. If you have an organised travelling companion, they can have a scalp and shoulder massage with some relaxing Aveda tea while you get your hair done!

Especially for the boys!

Get your shoes shined, play a game of pool in the Oak café bar (T2), or simply chill out and do some plane spotting in the Slaney Bar ( T2). Of course you can always do any of the above too!

My Top Ten beauty buys when travelling.

So I’m not a beauty expert but I have been on many plane journeys and had many sun holidays, so I think I know a good travel product when I see one! Here are my top ten beauty buys when travelling. I hope you find them helpful when shopping for your summer holidays!

On the plane:

Lip Balm

Flying dries out your skin and for me, my lips and hands are the first place to feel it. I love Elizabeth Arden’s eight hour intensive lip balm. It hydrates better than any others I have tried and is one of my top beauty buys when travelling.

You can pick it up in most pharmacies and on most airplanes, for about €20. Watch out for the travel exclusives at the airport, as you may find hand cream and lip tins together for a lower price.

My favourite beauty buys when travelling

Hand cream

It doesn’t take long before my hands start to go really dry on an airplane. I have actually bought hand cream on board when I realised it was in my checked luggage, for me it’s a must have! I guess most hand creams will help with dryness but my favourite is L’Occitane Shea butter. You can get it in The Loop before you fly, in a handy 30ml travel size, for only €6.80.

My favourite beauty buys when travelling

Mac prep and prime fix spray

This is a godsend on long flights. If like me, you don’t want to take off your make up and do the whole cleansing routine mid flight! You can spray this over your make up for an instant refreshing feel.  You can buy a 100 ml size at the Loop for €17.85

My favourite beauty buys when travelling

Estée Lauder Pure Colour Envy Liquid Lip Potion

I love these travelling, well actually I love them anytime! Unlike a lip gloss that gets stuck to your hair when you try to snooze on a plane, these are matt when dry. Of course, they also last much longer and than lip gloss too. I love the travel exclusive set, you can get three glosses for €55 in The Loop or buy a single one for €20. My favourite is wicked sweet 💋

At the beach:

Clinique sun creams

I only got these recently and I must say I love them! This Summer essential kit includes a face cream ( spf 30) , a body cream (spf 30) and a delicious aftersun rescue balm 💛 all in a nice bright yellow waterproof wash bag. And you can buy them in duty free for €30, before you fly!

My favourite beauty buys when travelling

Piz Buin sun spray

This is my other ‘must have’ for the beach. I know I should use nothing less than factor 20…. but for the last few days when the legs are still white and you need a glow – try Piz buin’s tan and protect sun spray. It is available in factor 30, 15 and 6, in all boots stores. My favourite beauty buys when travelling

Cucumber wipes

I use these all the time on holidays, they are so refreshing! Particularly after a day at the beach or if I come home late at night, and am too lazy to take off my make up properly! At €1.25 for 25 wipes, I can afford to use them whenever I want!

My favourite beauty buys when travelling

Kérastase Lait Richesse treatment &  VO5 Give me texture oomph powder.

To repair your hair from sun exposure, there is nothing better than Kérastase Lait Richesse . It can be used daily and since I started using it my hair always feels soft and shiny on holidays. No more dry holiday hair! My favourite on the go hair product is VO5 give me texture oomph powder. You can buy a small travel size bottle in Boots for €5.99 . Its great for your handbag and ideal for a long plane journey. A small dusting in our hair gives you that much needed ‘oomph’ after travelling.

My favourite beauty buys when travelling

Bed time:

Estée Lauder advanced night repair serum.

I don’t leave home without my Estée Lauder advanced night repair serum. I actually use this all the time now but find it particularly effective on holidays to combat excessive sun exposure, or dry skin. It’s not cheap at €116 but I think it’s the best!
