21. Nanny Murphy’s thatched cottage, Co.Longford.

pet friendly thatched cottage on airbnb

Nanny Murphy’s three-bedroom thatched Cottage has been featured regularly in the media, as it has been renovated using century-old techniques. The 24″ thick walls were made from mud and straw and you will be able to experience what it is like living under a thatched roof.

This sustainable cottage offers an abundance of Irish culture and heritage with many authentic features, including exposed beams, an open fireplace and even a Bodhrán. There is no TV so you are encouraged to have a digital detox and immerse yourself into this old Irish cottage, however, WiFi is available if required.

The cottage is located within walking distance to the local shop and just five minutes drive from Arvagh town and the nearest pub. There are countless walking trails nearby that will be welcomed by your pet, and if you fancy swapping cottage life for a castle, nearby Lough Rynn Castle is only twenty minutes drive away.
