Top 10 Accessories For Travelling With Pets

bringing dog on holidays

Safety harnesses, travel beds, feeding bottles, life vests, seat protectors, first aid kits and lots more – I’ve hand picked 10 accessories for travelling with pets.

One of the benefits of holidaying at home is that you can bring your four legged friend along with you. I was surprised to discover just how many accessories are available if you are planning on travelling with pets this summer.

With this in mind I have teamed up with Irish owned MicksGarage.com, who are Ireland’s number one online store for all your car and travel essentials. They have a wide selection of camping equipment, bike racks, roof racks as well as pet travel accessories – many of which are available to order with next day delivery. There are so many pet accessories to choose from, but I have highlighted ten of my favourites below.

1. Seat protectors and covers

2. Safety seat belt harnesses

Irish pet laws state you must restrain your dog while driving, so it is vital that you invest in a good safety belt harness. There is a wide selection to choose from depending on the size and weight of your dog.

The Trixie Car Safety Belt Harness is comfortable to wear and contains soft inner cushions on the chest area to alleviate any unnecessary discomfort or irritation to your dog when they pull on a leash, or if you need to brake suddenly. This also comes with a tape leash and be used when walking – and can be more comfortable for your dog than a leashed collar.

It is important to note that this Dog Car Safety Belt and Harness is designed to prevent the movement of your dog in your vehicle and provide an increased level of protection if an accident occurs. However, it does not guarantee safety during an accident. Please drive with care while transporting animals and help protect your pet while on the move.

This pet vest is bright and comfortable and comes with a zipper and handle on the back, in the unfortunate event that you need pull your dog from the water.

This is a great space saver and ideal for road trips and hiking.

Priced at only €7.99, this is great value  – and the bowls are dishwasher proof too!

The kit includes a wound compress, bandage packs, adhesive tape, alcohol swabs, a disposable syringe, a tweezers for removing ticks, gloves, a muzzle loop, flea and lice comb, and a book with tips for administering the correct first aid to your pet.

Inflatable Paddle Boards – Why You Should Buy One, And Which One To Choose

stand up paddle board SUP

Want to try something new this summer? Inflatable paddle boards are light, portable, and easy to use. This handy guide will tell you how to choose the right SUP board and why you should buy one!

Do you remember the massive obsession with water sports last summer? My social media feeds were full of sunrise swims – and getting your hands on inflatable paddle boards, or even a wetsuit was next to impossible. With gyms and most indoor activities off limits, outdoor sports became not only necessary, but also the ‘in’ thing to do. In fact, stand up paddleboarding, or SUP as it is more widely known, is now one of the fastest-growing sports in the world.

For those of you who want to try something new this summer, SUPping is a great sport to try. It is relatively easy to get started, is a great full-body workout, and it is something that adults and children can master. It is also very accessible, as you don’t need to be near the sea. You can try SUPping on a lake or river, and once you buy a SUP board, the sport is free!

How to choose the right SUP paddle board for you

Like any sport, you need to make sure you choose the right equipment to suit you. SUP boards come in all shapes and sizes and choosing the right SUP board depends on your age, experience and requirements.

All of the boards listed below are inflatable paddle boards. They are less expensive, lighter to carry to the water, and much more portable for travelling. They all come with a backpack, so you can hike off the beaten track and SUP away to your hearts content away from any crowds.

It is important to choose the right size paddle board to suit you. Bigger SUP boards are generally easier to ride, they are more stable on the water, and are easier for beginners to balance. The downside to having a bigger board is that it is heavier to carry to the water, and are slightly less responsive to turning manoeuvres.

If you’re a heavier paddler, you will need a bigger board that is thicker and wider. A smaller person will balance easier on a narrower board. A wider board will be more stable, but a skinny board will paddle faster. Whatever board you choose, make sure you have a life jacket with you for peace of mind.

As you can see, choosing the right paddle board is crucial to having the best experience while SUPping. I have teamed up with Irish owned MicksGarage.com, who are Ireland’s number one online store for car and staycation essentials.
