I was blown away by their beauty and serenity, but also by how different each island was and the variety of facilities available –  and this is coming from someone who was selling holidays to the Maldives for 24 years  before I visited.

The Maldives has won the world’s leading destination for the past three years, and it is not difficult to see why, but did you know there are over 1200 islands in the Maldives?

There are boutique-style islands that are best suited to honeymooners, while others have a wider choice of night life and activities available. Some islands are great for families too, with kids clubs, banana boat rides and luxury two-bedroom beach houses. 

I usually recommend all-inclusive resorts in the Maldives, but it is vital that you check what is included. Holidaying in the Maldives can be expensive, as most produce and drinks are imported,  so choosing the right all-inclusive arrangement is almost as important as choosing the right island.

If you have been following me for a while you will know how much I loved Kuramathi Island Resort – that sandbank is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been on.
