1. Costa del Sol: 4* All Inclusive Cortijo Blanco, 2&2, from €2809

The Cortijo Blanco’s white washed exterior has a villa style appearance, with pretty courtyards and plenty of family friendly facilities on site. There are three main swimming pools, two children’s pools, an outdoor play-zone, daytime entertainment programme, mini discos and a large open-air entertainment stage for evening shows.
 

 
Located just 10 minutes walk to the beach and a shuttle bus ride from Puerto Banus (free of charge), this is a great value property, with all meals and drinks included. Check out the reviews on TripAdvisor if you still need convincing.

Price is €3287 on the 10th of August, €3188 on the 17th of August, or €2809 on the 24th of August from Dublin. This holiday is also available from Cork for €3366. Price is based on 2 adults and 2 children sharing and includes flights, transfers, checked baggage, meals and drinks.

2. Turkey: 4* All Inclusive Julian Club, 2&2 from €3287

To quote one of the recent reviews on TripAdvisor, “Just Book It!’. This super resort is one of the best in Marmaris (rated number 1 on TripAdvisor) and receives great praise for its delicious food and top quality entertainment. 

There are four pools to choose from, including one with slides, but if you fancy a change of scene it is located within reach of Marmaris’ town centre and the beach.

Price is €3483 on the 7th of August or €3287 on the 24th of August from Dublin, based on 2 adults and 2 children sharing and includes flights, transfers, checked baggage, meals and drinks.

3. Majorca: 4* Protur Bonaire Aparthotel, 2&2 from €2684

This is one of the best family apartments in Majorca. We spent a week there when my children were younger and the kids loved it. It is located just a few minutes from the beach and the centre of Cala Bona, where there is an ample choice of restaurants and bars. If you want to venture further afield, the larger resort of Cala Millor is about a thirty minute walk.
 

 
You don’t need to venture outside the resort though as the facilities on-site are excellent. There is a children’s splash park with a giant pirate ship and there is day and night time entertainment, including a mini-disco in the evening. Kids are spoilt for choice with kids clubs and a multi-sports court, there is also a crèche for children under 3 years.

Price for flights, transfers, baggage, and a seven-night stay for 2 adults and 2 children is €2684 departing the 23rd of August. 

The Bonaire is also available with breakfast and evening meal included, the best price for half-board is €3149 on the 25th of August. Many more dates are available.

4. Gran Canaria: 5* Radisson Blu Resort & Spa, Mogan, 2&2 from €3910 

Treat yourself to some five-star luxury, staying at the Radisson Blu Resort & Spa Mogan. This hotel is located close to the seafront in the pretty fishing village of Mogan, and boasts a fountain-filled splash park, a rock climbing wall and a lively kids’ club.

There are also two swimming pools, as well as a Spa and fitness centre with a running track for adults.

Price for flights, transfers, baggage, and a seven-night stay for 2 adults and 2 children with breakfast is €3910 departing the 17th of August.

We had the pleasure of staying in Aqua Suites a few years ago and love its spacious suites and super service. The staff are so good with kids and always go above and beyond to ensure you have a great stay. It is no surprise that it is one of the best family hotels in Lanzarote according to TripAdvisor.

The Aqua Suites is also renowned for its great food, and when staying on a half board basis, you have the option to choose lunch or dinner. Located in Puerto del Carmen, within easy reach of the town centre and the beach, it has everything you need for a family holiday in Lanzarote.

7. Salou: 3*+ Sunclub Apartment, 2&3 from €3247

Families with three children will know how difficult it is to secure last minute holiday deals in August, but I found an availability in the popular Sunclub apartments in Salou. This family friendly property is located close to the beach and within easy reach of PortAventura.

There is a pool, a children’s splash park, and a restaurant with an al fresco terrace on site.

8. Algarve: Choice of Accommodation, 2&2 from €2305

The Algarve is one of my favourite sun holiday destinations, and I have a choice of family holiday deals in August to tempt you. The popular Golden Beach apartments are one of the best rated on TripAdvisor with excellent reviews, and offer great value for €2305 on the 24th of August from Dublin or €2487 from Cork, based on 2 adults and 2 children sharing.
 

 
The Golden Beach has a pool and bar on site, but it is the location that stands out here. Situated beside the popular resort of Praia D’Oura, with a fabulous beach, restaurants and bars all within five minutes’ walk, the location couldn’t be better.
 
If you want a wide range of facilities on site, including waterslides and entertainment, then you may want to check out the Alfagar apartments. Regarded as one of the best four-star resorts for families on the Algarve, a seven-night holiday is priced at €2778 for a family of four departing the 24th of August, including flights, transfers and baggage.

9. Costa del Sol: 4* All Inclusive Globales Playa Estepona, 2&2, from €3026

As well as a waterpark on site, the highly rated Globales Playa Estepona has numerous sports activities, kids clubs, day and night time entertainment and even has its own beach club restaurant. The waterpark has a space bowl, tube slides, body slides, a multilane and kamikaze slide – all are suitable for children 120cm and over.
 

 
Younger children have their own spray park and mini slides in a pirate-themed area. The hotel is situated close to glitzy Puerto Banus and offers a shuttle bus service 2-3 times per day into the centre.

Price is €3026 on the 24th of August from Dublin, based on 2 adults and 2 children sharing including flights, transfers, checked baggage, meals and drinks.

10. Salou: Villa Romana Hotel, Half Board, 2&2 from €2532

The Villa Romana is Salou’s best rated hotel  – its no 1 on TripAdvisor, and was a Travellers Choice award winner this year. It is centrally located and has a host of family friendly facilities on site.

There are two pools, one for children, as well as blow up slides during the summer months. There is a kids club for children aged 4 – 12 years as well as sports activities and a games room. A mini-disco and a variety of family-friendly shows are on in the evening time, and adults will love the gym, indoor pool and Spa.

If you fancy a change of scene, PortAventura, one of Europe’s best theme parks is just 15 minutes walk away.

One of the main reasons families flock to Tenerife each year is to visit one of the world’s best water parks – Siam Park. There is a wide choice of slides here for kids of all ages. One of my favourite family friendly resorts, Alvor is the picture perfect Algarve village. With white washed buildings and narrow streets, expect a small selection of bars and restaurants, but all good! The long sandy beach here is superb with plenty of rock pools for kids to explore.  The Alvorferrias have been welcoming Irish holiday makers for many years. Although basic, they are ideal for families looking for good value accommodation within walking distance to the pretty resort of Alvor and the beach. The on-site facilities include a kids club, two swimming pools and an à la carte restaurant.

One of my favourite destinations for family holidays, the Algarve, offers superb beaches, mouth watering food and great value for money in the resorts. I have chosen two properties, a self-catering option in the lively resort of Albufeira and an All Inclusive property in the pretty village of Alvor.

I brought my children to Corfu and Zakynthos and loved them both! The scenery, laid back pace and excellent value for money, makes Greece an ideal alternative if you want to try something different this year.
