soll ski

If you ever wanted an excuse to try skiing – now is your chance! Join the Soll Ski and Rock festival in January and not only enjoy superb skiing, but dance the night away to some of Ireland’s most exciting rock bands.

Soll is one of Austria’s most popular ski resorts. The skiing is superb, and even without the Soll Ski and Rock Festival, it has some of Austria’s best après ski. I had the pleasure of skiing in Soll last year and loved it. In fact I loved it so much I am going back with my family for New Year!

Soll is located in the Ski Welt region, Austria’s largest skiing area. It connects nine different villages, with 280 km of piste and 90 different lifts. I have put this package together for four nights, but you may want to extend it…

Don’t worry if you are not an advanced skier, there are plenty of easy runs too. There is also an excellent ski-school available, so whether you are a beginner or advanced skier, there are lessons available for everyone. Incidentally, Soll was recently awarded 1st place among 431 ski resorts worldwide, by Skiresort.de.

Soll will have a Ski Safari on 15th January and Back to Ski Classes on the 16th January – for those who need to find their ski legs again. There will also be an intriguing Hexen Challenge on the 17th January.

However, there is more to Soll than slopes! I loved tobogganing. There are two different runs in Soll, and they are open at night time too – best not to try it with a few pints of Stiegel onboard! I also paraglided off the top of Hohe Solve, which is a whopping 1800 meters above sea level – the views were breathtaking.

If you can manage to tear yourself away from the mountain and the live bands, you will love the choice of restaurants available. Soll is a bit of a foodie town. There are 77 restaurants in Soll – and believe me the town isn’t that big! There are some great restaurants on the mountain too, so enjoy a leisurely lunch after your morning ski – there is nothing better!

Bands taking part in Soll Ski and Rock Festival

Irish bands, The Academic, and The Blizzards will play gigs on and off the mountain. In case you didn’t already know, The Academic recently supported The Rolling Stones in Croke Park – they play on Thursday 16th January.

The Blizzards, complete with their famous lead singer Niall Breslin (Bressie), are sure to be a big hit. Other gigs will take place on the mountain every day at 3pm – this is typical of what you can expect from Soll’s famous après-ski. I was delighted to hear that 2FM are returning too. I have no doubt that the DJ sets by JJ Hartigan will keep the party atmosphere going.

How to book Soll Ski and Rock Festival

I found a great deal flying to Munich for only €73. I teamed these flights with the 4-star Alpenpanorama hotel, which is only €442 per person including breakfast.
