I am constantly asked about summer holidays for families with 3 or 4 children, so I have picked out 25 favourites from a variety of resorts to suit all tastes and budgets.
Summer holidays for families with 3 or 4 children can sometimes be hard to find. Most apartments and hotels accommodate families of four, but don’t panic, I have searched the web to bring you 25 great family holidays that I’m sure you will love.
You can rest assured all apartments and hotels receive good reviews and are family friendly resorts. Some holidays are package holidays with flights, accommodation, transfers and checked baggage included, while others are popular properties that you can book separately and add on flights from your chosen airport.
Costa Dorada – Salou
The Costa Dorada is one of the most popular family holiday destinations, partly because of its proximity to PortAventura theme park and the city of Barcelona, but also because of the family friendly resorts. I’ve chosen two favourites here:
4-Star Pineda Park, 2 /3 bedroom apartments, Self Catering – Sleeps up to 7
Located just five minutes walk the beach, these spacious 2 bedroom apartments tick all boxes for a family friendly holiday. As well as an adults and children’s pool, there is a outdoor terrace that offers evening entertainment. There is also a games room with pool table and mini discos for children.
Port Aventura is only 5km away and the popular waterpark Aquapolis is within walking distance. The Pineda Park apartments are highly rated on TripAdvisor and have many repeat guests.
4-star Golden Avenida Family Suites, Half Board – Sleep up to 6
Located just 10 minutes walk to the beach and within easy access of the town centre and Port Aventura, the Golden Avenida Family Suites are superbly situated. Suites are bright and modern and come with mini-fridges and microwaves, which are ideal for families with young children. There is a large swimming pool as well as a kids pool with a slide and a host of on-site activities for all the family to enjoy.
Kids will love the kids club and mini-disco, teens have their own ‘Hangout’, and there is also a baby club for little ones. Breakfast and evening meal is included in the cost, and the reviews of the food are excellent on TripAdvisor, in fact this complex is rated the 4th best out of 98 hotels in Salou.
Tenerife is a great destination for a family holiday. It is home to one of the world’s best water parks, Siam Park, and it’s family friendly resorts ensure its a firm favourite with Irish holidaymakers.
All-Inclusive, 4-star Villa Mandi & Siam Park, 2 bedroom apartment – Sleeps up to 6
This popular All-Inclusive resort offers free access to Siam Park throughout your stay. Located off the beaten track, you can enjoy some quiet time, but are also within easy reach of the lively Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos.
This large complex resembles a Mediterranean village and comes with four swimming pools, two playgrounds, a kids club and plenty of activities for adults and children, including a football pitch and live music shows.
The beauty of staying here is that not only are all meals and drinks included, but you have added advantage of staying in a 2 bedroom apartment, and not a small hotel room. Highly rated on TripAdvisor, this is sure to please an active family.
3-Star Royal Sunset Beach Club by Diamond Resorts, 2 Bedroom apartment – Sleeps up to 6
The Royal Sunset Beach Club is located just 100 metres from the beach and offers superb value holidays for families with 3 or 4 children. With both indoor and outdoor pools as well as a restaurant, bar and kids club, it is no surprise that this resort receives excellent reviews on TripAdvisor.
Please note this complex is the Beach Club, and should not to be confused by the Sunset Bay Club that is close by.
Portugal – Algarve
One of my favourite destinations for family holidays, the Algarve, offers superb beaches, mouth watering food and great value for money.
4-star Aparthotel Alfagar, Albufeira – Sleeps up to 6
Located on the outskirts of Albufeira, the Aparthotel Alfagar is one of the most popular choices for family holidays to the Algarve. The wide range of facilities on offer contribute to the high number of repeat guests.
Among these are the impressive outdoor swimming pools, heated indoor pool, waterslide park, playground, and babysitting service. For beach days, you can access Santa Eulalia beach directly from the apartments.
The Alfagar are a great option for families who want a stress-free holiday with plenty of amenities on hand, without feeling the need to venture too far. That combined with a great standard of apartment with a reasonable price tag, make them highly sought after with families.
There are three complexes within the Alfagar portfolio, including the Alto da Colina which is located across the road from the main complex. However, regardless of which property you choose, you are free to use the facilities in all three. If you can stretch the budget, check out the beautifully furnished one- and two-bedroom Prestige Apartments with Sea View.
Albufeira’s Old Town is just a short taxi drive away for those evenings when you want a change of scenery.
3-star Alvorferrias Apartments, Alvor – 2 / 3 Bedroom apartments sleep up to 8
View this post on Instagram
One of my favourite family friendly resorts, Alvor is the picture perfect Algarve village. With white washed buildings and narrow streets, expect a small selection of bars and restaurants, but all good. The long sandy beach here is superb with plenty of rock pools for kids to explore.
The Alvorferrias is only a 3-star property and may not be as good as some of the others on this list, but they have been popular with Irish holiday makers for many years, they do have 3-bedroom apartments that sleep up to 8, and they are situated in one of the Algarve’s prettiest resorts.
Although basic, they are ideal for families looking for good value accommodation within walking distance of Alvor and its superb beach. The on-site facilities include a kids club, two swimming pools and an à la carte restaurant.

5-star Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort Hotel, Sagres – Houses & Villas available
Martinal Sagres Beach Resort is widely regarded as one of the best resorts for family holidays in the Algarve. The choice of hotel rooms, apartments and houses means all families are well catered for. We stayed here recently and loved its understated laid back vibe and superb beachfront location.
Sagres is located at the westernmost point of the Algarve in a protected natural park, the setting will leave you feeling relaxed and free of stress from the minute you arrive.
There is an abundance of children’s facilities including kids’ clubs, football academy, tennis academy and swimming lessons. The Blast Room is designed for teenagers from 14 – 16 years, and in addition to the PlayStation, juke box and table games available, there is a comprehensive activity programme with kayak tours, sunset parties, and beach workouts to name a few. Note kids clubs are only complimentary during off peak times.
Martinhal also take the hassle out of your holiday if you are travelling with babies as they offer complimentary equipment that can be pre-booked such as sterilisers, thermometers and baby baths. There is a lot to love about this resort, and it is one of the best I have seen to cater for younger children and babies.See more here
Majorca is an island of contrasts, from the lively resorts of Santa Ponsa and Magaluf in the south to the quiet and unspoilt resorts of Puerto Pollensa and Soller in the north. Rated number 1 on TripAdvisor, the Loulas Village has been receiving Irish holidaymakers for many years. Kostos will be sure to give you a warm welcome and make you enjoy this laid back, family run apartment complex. Ideally located with some excellent restaurants and bars close by, this is a family property with traditional Greek charm.
3-Star Sidari Water Park Hotel – 2 bedroom apartment, Half Board – Sleeps up to 5
With 6 waterslides on site, it is no surprise that the Sidari Water Park Hotel is one of Corfu’s most popular family resorts. The animation team organise morning and evening entertainment for both adults and children. However, if a more leisurely stay is your preference, there is plenty of choice to relax at one of the hotel’s six pools, or take a short walk to the hotel’s private beach. Family rooms sleep up to five guests and the sea view rooms normally hold just a small supplement over the garden view rooms.
4-Star Sun Beach Resort Complex, 2 bedroom apartments – Sleep up to 5
Located in the north coast of Rhodes, the Sun Beach Resort is the perfect base for self-catering Rhodes holidays for families. Offering great value for a four-star property, it is worth looking particularly at the Kids Suites which are decorated with children in mind. They come complete with an activity table, drawing pads, crayons, and a Sony PlayStation 4 Game Console!
The resort boasts a full activity programme, a kids movie club and three outdoor playgrounds. Located on the beachfront and just 10 minutes from Rhodes Town, there are a lot of reasons to consider the Sun Beach Resort.
3-Star Golden Bay, 1 bedroom apartment, Self Catering – Sleeps up to 5
Located in the quiet seaside resort of Gournes, this highly rated complex is ideal for families looking for a relaxing holiday beside the beach. 5-Star Anemos Luxury Grand Resort, Chania – Half Board, Sleeps up to 6
View this post on Instagram
We had a fabulous holiday here in 2019. I loved its location, facilities, and stunning two-bedroom family suites. It is family friendly without being intrusive, and it is good value for a five-star resort, as breakfast and evening meals are included in your stay.
Anemos means wind in Greek, and I loved the constant sea breeze, it never felt unbearably hot, despite visiting in August. It is also close to the gorgeous Venetian towns of Chania and Rethymo and Ryanair offer direct flights to Chania from Dublin. You can read all about our stay here:
Costa del Sol:
The Costa del Sol is one of Ireland’s favourite holiday destinations. From Benalmadena to Marbella, it seems no resort is free of Irish holidaymakers during the summer months. If you are looking for something a little less commercialised, check out the resorts of Estapona and San Pedro de Alcántara. They are situated close to the glitz and glamour of Marbella, yet offer a much more laid back scene.
Globales Playa Estapona, All Inclusive, 1 and 2 bedroom Family Rooms – Sleeps up to 7
As well as a waterpark on site, the Globales Playa Estapona has numerous sports activities, kids clubs, day and night time entertainment and even has its own beach club restaurant. The waterpark has a space bowl, tube slides, body slides, a multilane number and a kamikaze slide – all are suitable for children 120cm and over. Younger children have their own spray park and mini slides in a pirate-themed area.
The hotel is located in a quiet area but is within reach of Puerto Banus, and there is a shuttle bus service 2-3 times per day to take you there. This is a great option for holidays for families with 3 or 4 children, as all meals and drinks are included in the price. Some rooms even hold up to 7 so if you happen to have 5 kids, this should tick all boxes.
