Kos, Greece:

Kos in Greece is one of the new holiday destinations from Ireland for 2023

Aer Lingus and Ryanair are flying twice weekly to Kos rom Dublin airport, this is in addition to TUI’s weekly charter flight, making Kos one of the best value destinations for family holiday deals this summer.

There is something to suit everyone in Kos, from relaxing beach resorts on the north coast to buzzing towns on the south coast, as as well as its cosmopolitan capital, Kos Town.

Kos is just 40 x 80 kilometres, so it is easy to visit most of the highlights. You also also take a day trip to Bodrum in Turkey – it is only 20 minutes by ferry from Kos Town, and costs just €25.

1. Package holiday – Flights, transfers, checked baggage & self catering apartment, 2ad & 2ch €1941self catering family holiday deals in Kos

We holidayed in the beach resort of Tingaki many years ago which is a popular choice for families. We loved its laidback atmosphere and 6km long sandy beach. It offers the best of both worlds as you can easily travel into Kos Town if you fancy a change of scene – it is only 20 minutes taxi ride away.

The Miros apartments are ideally located just five minutes walk to the beach and are the ideal choice for families looking for a relaxing holiday in typical Greek style. These simple apartments have a pool, children’s pool and a playground, and despite their official 2-star rating,  they are the number 1 rated apartments in Tingaki on TripAdvisor.

Price for a seven-night stay with flights, transfers and checked baggage included is €1941 on the 23rd of August.

It offers a beachfront location and four swimming pools – one of which has five large slides and a wave pool. You will also find a kids club for children aged 4-12 years, as well as tennis courts and live entertainment for adults and children. As this is an all inclusive hotel, meals and drinks are included in the cost.

Menorca, Spain:

Still relatively unspoilt, Menorca retains all the charm and character you would expect from a Spanish island, and without the high rise blocks. The laid back atmosphere makes a family holiday to Menorca the perfect choice.

With cafes, bars and restaurants being the main sources of evening entertainment, rather than discos and clubs, it is more suited for younger families, or families looking for a quiet holiday.

With Ryanair flying direct from Dublin Airport to Menorca this summer, there has never been a better time to visit. Return flights in August are available from €113 per person, making it one of the best value destinations for family holiday deals this summer.

3. Blancala apartments, 10th August, 2ad & 2ch €1885

self catering family holiday to Menorca

This small complex of 80 apartments is a great choice for families looking for a quiet holiday by the sea. Located 300 metres from the beach with two outdoor pools, a mini-golf course and a bar restaurant, it has all you need for a traditional family holiday to Menorca.

Apartments are simply furnished and you can pay a small supplement for a balcony with sea view. Two bedroom apartments are also available and sleep up to five. Highly rated on TripAdvisor and a Travellers Choice Award Winner last year – this is great value for a family holiday in August.

The Algarve is one of my favourite holiday destinations. I have visited many times, both with and without children. I particularly love the beaches there – there are over 100 of them stretching 150 km of coastline.

The short flying time and transfer times are very popular with families as are the friendly activities available. The marine theme park Zoomarine, is one of the Algarve’s top attractions, while car lovers will enjoy karting at the Algarve Motorsports Park.

5. Parque Mourabel Oasis Village & Pe do Lago, Vilamoura, 2ad & 2ch from €1778, 2ad & 3ch from €2425

self catering apartments in the Algarve for families

Ryanair and Aer Lingus have increased capacity this summer so airfares are still quite affordable. Return flights are available from Dublin and Cork from €170 in July, while Shannon and Knock are more expensive at €235 and €245 respectively. TUI also have package holidays with transfers and checked baggage included in the cost.

The Parque Mourabel offer great value for families looking to be close to upmarket resort of Vilamoura, without being in the centre of it. The aparthotel offers the best of both worlds, with the benefits of a hotel, as well as having self-catering facilities.

It is located 2km from the marina at Vilamoura and is surrounded by five golf courses. Free daily transfers from the hotel to Vilamoura Marina and the beach are also available if you do not wish to hire a car.

Price for a seven-night stay is €1098 in a one-bedroom apartment, or €1575 for a two-bedroom apartment that will accommodate up to six.

Costa del Sol, Spain

One of Ireland’s most popular holiday destinations, the Costa del Sol is a great choice for a family holiday this summer. There are plenty of holiday resorts to choose from, but take time to visit Malaga while you are there, you won’t regret it!

6. Sunset Beach Club, 2ad & 2ch from €1980

family holidays to Sunset Beach Club
Irish owned, with daily entertainment and a beachfront location in Benalmadena, it is no surprise that the 4-star Sunset Beach Club is one of the most popular places to stay on the Costa del Sol for families.

There are many flights to Malaga from all Irish airports, but I found the best value departing from Dublin on the 24th of July for seven nights for €152. Similar dates from Cork are €234 with Aer Lingus, and Ryanair has flights from Knock from €224 and Shannon from €314.
Search flights 24th – 31st July from €152pp
