Get Exclusive Offers on Award Winning SKI AMIS Ski Chalets This Season

Superb locations in snow sure resorts, top quality food and unlimited wine with meals. There are ski chalets, and there are SKI AMIS ski chalets…

The multi award winning SKI AMIS ski chalets are now available to book from Ireland! I have teamed up with O’Hanrahan Travel, the ski specialists, who are offering exclusive rates on SKI AMIS ski chalets for the coming ski season.

ski amis ski chalets

With more and more people looking for authentic holiday experiences, ski chalets have become extremely popular over the last number of years. Holidaymakers love the home away from home atmosphere, the ‘living with locals’ trend and the nice home cooked meal after a day on the mountain. One issue however, that crops up time and time again, is the overall standard of ski chalets. Traditionally they are basic, family run properties with average food. It can also be difficult to know how to find the right one, consistency can be a problem. That’s why SKI AMIS ski chalets are so exciting…

SKI AMIS ski chalets

A family business for over 30 years, SKI AMIS set really high standards and nothing is left to chance. All staff are highly trained, you won’t find the owner’s 16 year old nephew in the kitchen…  In fact SKI AMIS are renowned for their high culinary standards. The same menus are set across all of their ski chalets, by an award winning catering company. Staff and chefs receive intensive training at the start of the season on how to prepare all meals. Meals are catered for the UK / Irish pallet so you won’t receive typical French cuisine, but instead, delicious home cooked food and unlimited quality wine, that you will relish after a day on the mountain. If you don’t fancy their infamous traditional cooked breakfast ( they even fly in the sausages and from the UK ) you can opt for the ‘healthy start’ with cereals, natural yogurts and fruit.  Their afternoon tea is pretty special too with French bread and lots of cakes, waiting for you after your afternoon ski. Did I mention all of this is included in the price of your stay?

ski amis ski chalets

It’s not only the food that differentiates SKI AMIS ski chalets from it’s competitors, their locations and facilities are excellent too. Couples, families and large groups are all catered for. In fact one of SKI AMIS ski chalets, Les Menuires can accommodate a group of 75 people in the same building! All of their chalets are in the French Alps, in snow-sure resorts, and most of them offer the facility to ski directly to and from the chalet. I was able to ski in and out of my accommodation on my last ski trip and it was fantastic. Once you try it, you will never want to ski any other way. No more lugging skis and boots up and down the mountain, it is bliss. Other things that should never be underestimated after a long days skiing, are a log fire, hot tub and a comfortable bed! SKI AMIS chalets have all three. HYPNOS beds are in all chalets and are one the world’s most comfortable beds. And you can expect a hot tub or jacuzzi in all chalets except Chalet Christine. They also have free WiFI, so you can instagram your holiday to your hearts content! Between the tasty meal, unlimited wine and the comfortable bed, you may find it hard to actually get to the ski slope in the morning! SKI AMIS make it easy for you though, they even have electric boot warmers! In fact they make everything easy, they will leave your lift passes in your chalet on arrival and arrange lessons, transfers or car hire, if desired.

ski amis ski chalets

For those who like the finer things in life, check out their premium service chalets. You will find the the same top quality chalets but with some extras thrown in. Expect aperitifs before dinner and a cheeseboard and liqueurs afterwards. You will also have bathrobes, a choice of pillows and premium bed and bath accessories.

“It always amazes me that these guys are not trained chefs but can produce such amazing food so consistently”

“quite simply the best hosts we’ve had in 20 chalet holidays”

These are just two of the many testimonials SKI AMIS have received and if you look up tripadvisor, there are countless excellent reviews.

With the kids off for two weeks over Easter, a week away is just what’s needed. I found a great deal to Salou, staying in the superb Sanguli resort. This is one of Spain’s most popular campsites and is always booked out during the Summer months. Situated beside the beach, in the heart of Salou and only minutes from Port Aventura Theme Park, the location just couldn’t be better. I included a two day pass to PortAventura in this deal because I went there this year with my kids and loved it. Read my review of PortAventura for all the highlights, tips and tricks. You can also take a day trip to Barcelona, the Roman city of Tarragona, or the harbour town of Cambrils, a food lovers paradise! Suffice to say you will be spoilt for things to do. Sanguli is equipped with pool slides, an entertainment program and beautiful gardens, so it’s not surprising that it is one of the most sought after complexes in the area.

Win Business Class Tickets to New York for 8 People with Avios Points

New York City Photo Tips

Imagine flying business class to New York with seven of your friends….It could be you, if you convert your Real Rewards to Avios points!

SuperValu and AerClub have launched an amazing competition to win one million Avios points! As an Avios millionaire you could treat yourself to a host of holiday destinations or fly business class to New York, Boston, Chicago or Toronto with seven of your friends! (T&Cs apply). There are also 100 prizes of 10,000 Avios points and one lucky AerClub member will also win 2 return tickets to New York.

avios points

What I love about this competition is that you can enter as many times as you like. All you need to do is convert a minimum of 50 SuperValu Real Rewards points to Avios points to enter. Every time you convert 50 points, this counts as 1 entry. If, like me, you are a regular shopper in SuperValu, the chances are you have hundreds of Real Rewards just sitting in your account. Just make sure you convert them to Avios points before the 31st of October 2017, and convert 50 at a time to get as many entries as possible. If you haven’t already converted SuperValu points to Avios points, it literally takes minutes on the SuperValu website.

Still not joined AerClub? Just click here.

avios points

Why should I join?

As an AerClub member, Avios points are so easy to accumulate; you don’t have to be a frequent flyer to collect them. In fact you will collect much more by simply shopping. You can collect points in stores like SuperValu, Kildare Village and Appleby and in top highstreet stores online at the Avios eStore. You can collect a staggering 30,000 Avios points by subscribing to the Irish and Sunday Independent or 500 Avios points by making a restaurant reservation online by using Restaurant Circle. Of course you can also collect points every time you fly with Aer Lingus or their partner airlines such as British Airways, Iberia and United. I’ve been collecting points for 10 months now and I almost have a business class upgrade to New York. Almost all of these points were collected by shopping. Still not convinced? Read my no nonsense guide on how to get flights and upgrades with Avios points or check out this short video.

Still not joined SuperValu Real Rewards?

Just pick up a Real Rewards card in your local SuperValu and log onto the SuperValu website. Add your AerClub membership number and convert your Real Rewards points to Avios points in minutes. Just remember to convert 50 at a time to get as many entries as possible.

Good luck!

Weekend In Bilbao, Flights & 4 Star Hotel, 13th October, 3 Nights, €299!

48 hours in Bilbao

One of the world’s finest art museums, some of the best Spanish cuisine and a bustling old town, spend a weekend in Bilbao and enjoy one of Spain’s best kept secrets.

We spend a weekend in Bilbao last year and loved it.  The city is so easy to navigate on foot but there are trams, buses and a metro too. The old town is full of character with pintxo bars (similar to tapas) on every corner. Locals spilled out of bars enjoying a glass of Rioja and light bites, the buzz was electric. Prices are great too, with a glass of wine from €1 – €2 and pintxos from €1 – €5.

For a great view of the city, take the three minute funicular to Mount Artxanda at a cost of only €2!  If like us, you manage to get nice blue skies, you can also pop down to one of Bilbao’s many beaches. Shoppers will love the Gran Via and make sure you visit the Plaza Neuva to chill out when you are done. This old square is packed with tourists and locals enjoying the Spanish culture. Of course no visit to Bilbao would be complete without a trip to the famous Guggenheim museum. Even if you are not an art lover you can not help but be impressed with the stunning architecture. For more details on my weekend in Bilbao, read my blog, 48 hours in Bilbao.

If you fancy going further a field you could rent a car ( prices from only €40) and visit the wine lands of Rioja (75 minutes away) or the Game of Thrones stunning location, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, 50 minutes away.  We visited both as we took a week long road trip of the basque country, visiting Rioja and San Sebastian too.

I found a great deal to the highly rated 4* Barcelo Bilbao Nervion. Ideally located in the heart of Bilbao, only a ten minute walk to the old town and the Guggenheim, this is an excellent choice to explore this great city. Fly from Dublin to Bilbao with Aer Lingus on the 13th of October and enjoy a three night stay for only €299 per person.

Why You Need To Add Travel Disruption Cover To Your Travel Insurance Policy

Last year massive travel companies like Thomas Cook and WOW Air ceased trading, thousands of flights were cancelled over strikes, and currently the Coronavirus is causing havoc for travellers in 2020. If you don’t already have Travel Disruption Cover – get it now!

Insurance is one of those purchases that unfortunately you only really value when something goes wrong.  I always book my travel insurance with and just renew it each year without asking any questions. However in light of recent events, I like many of you, found myself asking what exactly am I covered for?

Read: What to do if you have booked a holiday and are worried about Coronavirus
Most insurance policies will not cover you for ‘acts of God’ like hurricanes or volcano eruptions, or for airline strikes or closures. Remember the Icelandic ash cloud? 100,000 flights were cancelled and many people were left stranded for weeks. however, have a Travel Disruption Cover which can be added to all policies from as little as €10 (single trip policy) and €17 (annual policy) and will provide you with additional cover in the event of adverse weather conditions, airline cancellations and even strikes.

Book here

travel disruption cover

Like all insurance policies however, you can’t purchase Travel Disruption Cover after something goes wrong… Once you have added it to your policy it will be effective seven days later. So don’t wait until you hear that a case of Coronavirus has been reported in the country you are going too – add it to your policy now.  Note: new bookings will not be covered against Covid-19 if there is a travel advisory in place advising ‘all but non essential travel’ – i.e Spain or Italy.

Travel Disruption Cover offers extended cover under delayed departure, missed departure and accommodation sections, should your flight be cancelled or delayed as a result of strike or adverse weather conditions.

    • If your flight is cancelled or delayed for more than 12 hours it covers additional accommodation and travel costs up to €1,000.
    • If your flight is cancelled or delayed for more than 12 hours then you can claim back up to €1,000 for irrecoverable unused travel and accommodation costs should you cancel.
    • Claim back up to €1,000 for accommodation if you have to be moved from your current location or cut your trip short because of flood, earthquake, volcanic eruption etc
    • Covers cancellation or curtailment charges should the Foreign & Commonwealth Office or World Health Organisation advise against travel to the country or specific area you are travelling to.
    • Gives you control of the situation and the added security that you have sufficient cover should an airline cancel, delay or redirect your flight after take-off.

The Definitive Guide to Booking Lapland Holidays

reindeer 16_opt

Bringing the kids to see Santa in Lapland is a once in a life time opportunity, you only get one chance! Check out my definitive guide to booking Lapland holidays, and make sure you get it right!

Without a shadow of a doubt, Lapland was one of the best family experiences we had. We went for two nights, three years ago and it is still the most talked about trip in our house. Every Christmas the photos come out, our video is watched over and over and the kids are constantly reminding their friends how they met the ‘REAL’ Santa. People often remark on the cost and yes, I know it is expensive, but when I say you will have lifetime memories, I really mean it. It may cost the same as a week in the sun but ask yourself, which holiday will you remember more?  I am sure my children will pass on their memories to their own children, it’s not something that will be forgotten about in a few years time. Of course seeing Santa is the highlight and the reason you book it in the first place, but the winter wonderland experience is incredible too. Snowmobiling into snowy forests, husky and reindeer rides, all add to the experience. Check out my short video of our trip and you will see what I mean…

There are different Lapland holidays for different tastes. Some people may be short on annual leave and want to keep the cost down, while others may decide to blow the budget and stay for five days. I have teamed up with, the Lapland specialists, who offer a wide selection of Lapland trips to suit all tastes and budgets. What’s great about is that they will do all the research for you. Whether you like Sunway, Canterbury Travel or Falcon packages, VisitSanta will offer you independent advice and recommend the right package to suit your requirements. And the best part, they provide this service for free. In fact sell so many Lapland packages, they may even be able to source a better price for you!

Lapland, The Travel Expert

Day Trip offer two different day trips, Enchanting Lapland and Santa’s Secret Grotto, which are ideal if you are short of time and or have a limited budget. Enchanting Lapland offers a sleigh transfer from the airport and a visit to a snow igloo, while Santa’s Secret Grotto will bring you to Elf School in Santa Park. Both are action packed with a choice of snowmobile, husky and reindeer rides, with lunch and thermal clothing included.

2 Day Trip – Santa’s Sleepover

Overnight in Santa’s hometown and experience snowmobile, husky and reindeer rides. You will also have time to enjoy time at Santa’s village in the Arctic Circle, where you can visit Santa’s official Post Office. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included as well as thermal clothing. This trip also gives you some free time in the evening to enjoy the winter wonderland.

A trip to see Santa in Lapland by The Travel Expert

3 Day Trip – Idyllic Lapland

This gives you the opportunity to really immerse yourself into the winter wonderland of Lapland. Although still action packed, each activity is allocated a longer duration. You will have a full 90 minute husky and reindeer experience, deep in the snowy forest as you ‘search’ for Santa. This really is a different experience to the shorter trips because the search for Santa feels real and you don’t actually find him until the third day. Can you imagine the excitement? There are also extra snowmobile rides with dedicated children’s snowmobiles. Enjoy tabogganing, meet the Elves at home and visit Santa’s post office. Thermal clothing and all meals are included, including a Festive Gala dinner.

4 Day Trip -Lapland Lullaby

This trip offers a similar experience to the 3 day Idyllic Lapland trip, but with a little more free time to enjoy your surroundings. Enjoy the 90 minute husky and reindeer experience as you search for Santa and meet the elves and visit Santa’s post office. On this trip you will have extra time to build a giant snowman, go tabogganing or even try skiing!

5 Day Trip –  Festive Frolicking

Experience magical Lapland with this four night adventure. Go deep into the arctic wilderness as you search for Santa and enjoy some husky and reindeer rides, tabogganing and a snowmobile safari, along the away. Visit Santa’s workshop and go to Elf school, where you can decorate your own gingerbread man to bring home. Help the elves in the toy factory and in the post office before having a private meeting with Santa. The following day you will visit the Snow Village which includes a Snow Hotel, an Ice Restaurant. Chapel and an Ice Bar. Unlike most Lapland trips, this gives you lots of free time to explore the surrounding area or try some skiing.
