Lanzarote, Easter Holidays, 1 week, 2ad & 2ch €1575!

lanzarote easter holidays

Enjoy one week in the popular Rosamar apartments in Puerto del Carmen and have an Easter holiday to remember.

Lanzarote is a great choice for a family holiday. There are numerous sights to see and with waterparks and an animal park, the kids will be spoilt for choice. Easter is relatively late next year so temperatures should be high enough to enjoy the many watersports available at the beach. If you like shopping, the old town of Puerto del Carmen has plenty of high street stores to tempt you, with prices approximately 25% less than at home. For more information on Lanzarote, you can read my blog by clicking here.

Is this the ultimate honeymoon?

Kandolhu 1217

Imagine the anticipation of waiting for your chauffeur driven limousine to pull up outside your home. Your journey starts here…

Arrive at the airport in style and go straight to the business class desk for a speedy check in. Enjoy a glass of bubbly in the Etihad lounge before boarding your business class flight to your ultimate paradise island. Sample drinks of your choice and some fine dining on board, before drifting off to sleep on the Etihad Airways lie flat beds.

Kandolhu, Maldives, The ultimate honeymoon by The Travel ExpertArrive thoroughly refreshed only to board a sea plane for the final hop across the Indian Ocean. After a short 25 minute flight you will arrive at the five star luxury Kandolhu Island in the Maldives. The island is 200 metres long by 150 metres wide and has only 30 villas.  It is the guardian to one of the most pristine and colourful reefs in the Maldives. The beach, one of dust like pure white sand, is exactly what comes to ones imagination when ‘paradise’ is mentioned.

You will be staying in one of only seven ocean pool villas. Facing the sunset, these villas serve only to enhance the experience at Kandolhu. Each villa is reached by its own private walkway and on entering the oversized bedroom, you’ll notice the large bed, daybed and walk-in wardrobe. The bathroom is open with a shower, bathtub and opens out onto the pool deck. Complete with sunloungers, sun umbrella and a plunge pool with panoramic views of the ocean. Suffice to say; You. Have. Arrived.

So we are familiar with the concept of ‘all inclusive’, but Kandolhu Island brings that concept to a whole new level. Here you will have the choice of dining in four a la carte restaurants. You have your own wine cooler in your room, stocked with 30 bottles of premium wine. There is an unspoken challenge to get through as many as you can, as you sit and watch the sunset beyond the horizon each evening. So is this the ultimate honeymoon destination? Well, its got to be up there with the best, and once you consider the ‘ultimate inclusions’ option, it doesn’t get much better than this!

Sarah Slattery, The Travel Expert offers a great deal to Dubai

After relaxing for seven nights on this wonderful island, being spoilt by the service, and slowing down the pace of life to a crawl, what next? It has to be the glitz, the glamour and all the excess on offer in Dubai. Shop till you drop in the biggest malls in the world and marvel at the view from the world’s tallest building. You can ski, surf, or safari (in the desert at least!)  – what ever you want to do, you will probably find it in Dubai. Spend five nights in a deluxe room at the stunning Atlantis Palm Hotel (airport transfers by limo of course). Enjoy breakfast and evening meal each day and if you are feeling adventurous, access to their waterpark throughout your stay. You will also have afternoon tea in the world’s only seven star hotel, the Burj al Arab. I have done this and, believe me, it’s worth it just to see the glorious excess that is seven star.

Don’t worry though if you are feeling tired after all that action in Dubai, you can chill out and relax on your return business class flight. And just to complete the ultimate honeymoon, your chauffeur will be waiting for you in Dublin airport to bring you home – and back to the reality! So forget about the chocolate fountains and the candy carts, nobody will remember them anyway.  As for the honeymoon, well, it is a trip of a lifetime….

Travel Tips

Top tips for a digital detox on holiday!

Beach, relaxation by The Travel Expert

How many of us look at our phones just before we go asleep and first thing when we wake up? Ok, so we may not admit that to many people, but in reality, many of us do….

Why do we obsess so much about what others do? Why do we spend so much time watching other peoples lives and then moan that we don’t have enough time to do anything? Before we know it, it becomes a habit and it’s something we just ‘do’.

The beauty about holidays is that habits go out the window and everyday is a new experience. We can literally forget what we do at home, sit back, relax and immerse ourselves in a different culture. In order to really do this properly, and return from holidays feeling like we have really switched off, we need to do just that – switch off.  It may seem hard at first but trust me, you can see the latest picture of Kim Kardashian’s ass or the Sport Bibles latest football video when you get back, along with the post about the top 10 best burger joints in Kazakhstan!

Tips to have a tech free holiday by The Travel Expert

So I’m assuming if you have got this far you are looking for some inspiration to help you along the way.  I’m not an expert on avoiding email or social media but I have learned a few tricks during my travels! Here are my top tips for a digital detox on holiday.

1. Let people know you are away.

Make sure you turn on your ‘out of office’ on your email and leave a voicemail on your phone saying you are on leave. This may not stop the first email or phone call but it will certainly stop any future calls from the same person. Also if you decide not to answer your phone and they call again, well at least you will know its urgent! If they don’t call back – it can wait till you get home!

2. Leave your devices at home.

Ideally leave everything at home but let’s face it, we are not that brave! You can however limit yourself to one device, this works great with kids too, tell them they can only bring one thing, phone, ipad, console or laptop. At least when the battery dies, you will have some free time!

tips to avoid a stress free holiday by The Travel Expert

3. Research before you leave.

Check out the best restaurants as well as the top attractions at your destination and print these out before you leave. This may seem a bit antiquated but it will save you going online when abroad.

4. Avoid additional wifi charges

If there are additional fees for wifi in your hotel room – don’t pay them! If you really need to go online, go to the designated wifi area which should discourage excess use.

5. Bring the latest ‘must read’ book.

Once you start reading a good book, its hard to put it down and it will make the withdrawal symptoms much easier to manage. This also works with kids, bring a book they are interested in reading and hopefully they wont miss their Ipad or console as much!

Top tips for a tech free holiday by The Travel Expert

6. Engage time limits.

If you can’t manage to be without your device at least limit it to a particular time of day. Personally I think night time is easier, if means you have to be outside during the day and enjoy the sunshine. This also works well with kids too, if out for a meal at night time, they can enjoy some time on phones or consoles while you enjoy a nice bottle of vino!

7. Go old fashioned

Bring back the old times and play cards and boardgames. If travelling with kids hunt for crabs along the beach, try deep sea fishing or relive your youth and try a waterpark. If you are a little adventurous you will be surprised how much fun you can have going outside your comfort zone.

Tips to have a tech free holiday

8. Ban headphones!

This for me is the most annoying habit. If your teenager wants to listen to music, try to listen together, as a family. This works really well if hiring a car or playing some music before you go out in the evening. Take turns in introducing various music, I’m sure they will love to hear some old Beatles classics as much as  you will love the latest Beyonce number but hey, its educational for all!

Bank Holiday Weekend in Florence, Flights & Hotel, 29th October, €288

Florence

Florence, one of Italy’s most beautiful cities is historic, charismatic and of course romantic! Enjoy the bank holiday weekend in Florence from only €288!

Stroll along the banks of the Arno, browse the jewellery shops on the Ponte Vecchio bridge, or marvel at the Tuscan countryside, if Florence doesn’t bring out some romance in you, I’m afraid nothing will!  I love that the city is so walkable, yes there are numerous art galleries, cathedrals and museums to see, but everything is so close together that you will be surprised how much you can manage in a few days.

Duomo, Florence by The Travel Expert

The cathedral or Duomo is one of the most impressive I’ve ever seen. As you climb the narrow staircase the red roof tops peer through the small windows. Once you reach the top, the views of Florence are staggering. The Ponte Vecchio bridge is full of vendors and street artists and for me, is the heart of this great city.  The cities top attraction, the Uffizi gallery has one of the largest collections of art in the world and attracts a huge crowd. Make sure you book tickets online beforehand to skip the queue! If you have the time, take a day trip into the unique Tuscan countryside, visit nearby Sienna, Chianti, San Gimignano and admire the remarkable scenery.

Fly from Dublin to Pisa with Ryanair on the 29th of October and spend three nights in the Villa Lucrezia Firenze for only €288 per person. Rated very highly on tripadvisor and awarded a gold level from Greenleaders, this is the place to stay for a traditional Italian welcome. My advice is to stay longer if you can, and take in the tuscan countryside, but hey if you don’t have the time don’t panic, once you go to Florence once, you will definitely come back for more!

Top 10 Honeymoon Destinations

couple-789824_1280

We all have different tastes and budgets, so I think it is fair to say that there are no perfect honeymoon destinations that suit everyone – well maybe Bora Bora…

Lets face it, if we had unlimited holidays and unlimited cash, we would probably all like to stay in a beach villa in the South Pacific. However, being realistic, we need to remember not everyone can take three weeks off to travel the world, and many of us have limited means. You also have to make sure to check the weather before you book, as it could be the rainy or even hurricane season in your dream honeymoon destination. Here are my top  honeymoon destinations – there should be one here to suit you.

1. Short on time – The Amalfi Coast

top 10 honeymoon destinations

For those of you who only don’t have lots of annual leave available, a week in Italy is the perfect choice. Stay in a deluxe hotel in Positano or Ravello and live like a celebrity. Visit the isle of Capri, take water taxis along the coast and soak up the Italian atmosphere.  Bellisimo!

2. Short on cash – Greece

top 10 honeymoon destinations

I love the Greek islands and if you are getting married during the summer months, then Greece is a great choice. Swim with turtles in the turquoise waters of Zakynthos, explore the hilltop town of Lindos in Rhodes, or chill out in a five-star hotel in Crete. I stayed in a luxury hotel near Chania and loved it.

3. Like All Inclusive? –  Cancun.

top 10 honeymoon destinations

If you want a luxury hotel with all meals and drinks included, then Cancun is best for value. Cancun is perfect for anyone who wants to be pampered, without moving too far from your hotel.  Many honeymooners feel exhausted after the wedding, so all-inclusive holidays suit perfectly. You could however, mix it up a little and add in a few days in New York or Vegas on the way back….

If you don’t fancy to much packing and unpacking, try a Caribbean cruise and see them all on day trips!

Drive from LA to Scottsdale, on to Vegas before hitting Death Valley and Yosemite. From there drive to San Francisco and hit the pacific coast highway back to LA. For a two week trip, make it simple, fly to San Francisco and drive the PCH to San Diego.

Top 5 Stag Party Destinations

las-vegas-680953_1280 (1)

So lets face it, this may be the last time a large group of you will get together for such a crazy weekend – why not have a stag party to remember? My top 5 stag party destinations might help you decide where to go.

Yes, there may be future football and golf trips, but if kids are on the horizon, believe me they won’t be the same. There is a likely chance that you will ‘crash and burn’ in the early stages of the lads weekend – or so I’m told! There are so many stag party destinations to choose from. I’ve listed my top five below – hopefully they will help you plan a stag party to remember.

So where to go? Well that depends on what exactly you are looking for and what budget you have. If you want sun – why not try Benidorm? If you want to see some sights, a city break is a good idea – Berlin perhaps? If you are football mad then you could go to Liverpool or Barcelona, and if money is no object then it has to be the party place to end all party places, Vegas Baby! Here are my top five stag party destinations. There has to to be one here to suit you.

1. Berlin

Berlin is so on trend at the moment and it is perfect for a lads trip away.  Not only has it one of the best clubbing scenes in Europe, and the best beer, but you also have a bit of culture thrown in. From what I hear, lads like the ‘war’ stuff, and seeing the highlights like Checkpoint Charlie and the Berlin Wall will keep you sober for a while – well hopefully!

Check out my city guide to Berlin here

2. Barcelona

Barcelona is another great option for a city break, and if you like football, a trip to the Nou Camp is a must. Take in a game or just do the tour – either way, it’s worth it. Barcelona has so much more to offer though, great nightlife, great tapas and of course it’s on the beach…

3. Amsterdam

Ok, so I know what you are thinking, sex, drugs and rock n roll! Well you will find some, or all of that, but Amsterdam has much more to offer. The likelihood is you are not going to visit Anne Franc’s house or the Van Gogh museum, but a cruise along the canal might be in order? However, if Amsterdam is on the radar for a stag do, it’s probably for the “nice cakes” and “red lights”…

4. Benidorm

Ok, so this might sound cheesy, but believe me Benidorm is great craic.  It’s a holiday resort like no other – you will be rocking to the U2 tribute bands and enjoying 5 beers for €5! For a crazy scene on the beach, you can’t beat it.

Check out how I got on over a weekend in Benidorm here.

5. Las Vegas

Vegas Baby – the city that never sleeps! If you want to smash the budget, then Vegas it has to be. This is one of the top stag party destinations in the world. Enjoy the pool parties, try your luck in the casinos and enjoy the free drink all night long. You might opt to catch a boxing match or even a show, before flashing the cash at the MGM Grand.

Anything goes in Vegas, you can get what you want, 24/7 – just make sure you don’t get married while you are there! Go see the Grand Canyon by helicopter, cruise along the strip in a Ferrari. At least it will look like you did something worthwhile…
